Here
The stat that stands out the most to me today is the 8 turnovers. If we can keep turnovers now while playing faster and with more ball movement we can add an elite offense to our elite defense.
Brogdon will keep the Brown forcing the offense issue to a minimum, and Brown will be free to score more naturally in rhythm.

Pretty much controlled the whole second half. Tatum and Brown both great.

Brogdon was the perfect acquisition for this roster. He’s going to be in a ton of their best lineups.

damn, why are celts coaches so afraid to put ih the bench?
It’s the first game of the season and his first as head coach. Also, Harden is on the other team. Making sure they locked in this win without any drama seems reasonable. There will be plenty of garbage time minutes the rest of the season.

As a Rhode Islander who had played on teams in adult leagues with Danny Mazzulla, I’m so thrilled for Joe. I just wish that his father was here to see this.

Jays looked like true stars in their prime.
Smart and Al looked like the crafty veterans they are.
Brogdon looked like he’s been playing in the offense for years at a high level.
Grant put up some nice offense.
Nice start overall.

I'll chalk it up to opening night and needing the Jays for longer, and hopefully the schedule will help average out their minutes with some 30 min and under games soon...

too much fear. In the last 80 or so seconds the starters weren't interested in being out there, and played sloppy. The bench would of done a better job

But wth, great win!

They’re going to beat the everloving shit out of a lot of teams this year, so I’m sure there will be a lot of fourth quarters off for the Jays moving forward.

One thing I have noticed.
The Celtics want to run. Play fast. That means more points. But it also means that the OPPG, even when the defense is playing reasonably well, may be a bit up just because of sheer number of possessions.
Small sample, and 100% may not be a long term thing, but curious if that plays out moving fwd.

After a skittish start, Vonleh had some interesting moments. Did an OK job bodying up, competed, looked a little less lost.

And Embiid is obviously a fucking load of an assignment.

The Cs really won the game during that stretch where the D got a little extra aggressive and forced some turnovers. Philly is an awkward team to defend because of Embiid/Harden so we’ll have to see how it shakes out against lesser competition. Hope they can still bring the clamps out regularly, though it may be more with smaller faster lineups to start the year. And with Tatum Smart etc they play bigger than they are anyway.

Grant didn’t miss a shot and had a nice layup to the opposite side of the rim early when they were struggling to score.

The amount better he is than 2 years ago is hard to believe.

Grant hit some big threes including a sort of up and under job early in the 4th to hold off a mini-run. But I thought his most encouraging play of the night was taking it down low and getting the and-1 on a confident pump fake of Embiid. Looked more like his Tennessee highlights than he ever has as a pro.

Wouldn’t be surprised if that was an Embid specific strategy.

Disagree. Vonleh was late and not in legal guarding position, so his face kind of got in the way as Embiid went up. Good no call.
Embiid lunged forward into Vonleh. Leading with his elbow. Lots of times guys get called for that even when they hit the defender inadvertently.

The Celtics may be shorthanded in Bigs with Gallinari and Time Lord on the DL, but they are overwhelmingly skilled at every other position. A guard rotation of Smart, Brogdon and White is excellent, and then there's Pritchard in reserve.

Boston wins the bench battle 34 to 11

Tatum wins the superstar battle with 35 points on 20 shots and a plus10. Embiid 26 points on 18 shots, minus13

JB matched Harden’s fire with 35 points to 35 points.

Boston wins the turnover battle, 10-14.

Boston wins the rebound battle 36 to 31. Including the office of rebound battle 6-4

Boston shots 34-47 inside the arc, 72.3%. The early offense and hard slashes to the basket against mismatches, off great spacing, paid off big time tonight.
