Yup, forgot about a few of these, Ovechkin’s and Weber’s in particular.
Pastrnak’s gonna be the seventh. Four of the six on the books right now were in the “insane years to drive down the AAV” era (Ovechkin, Kovalchuk, Crosby, and Weber).

Given the Bruins situation in the coming years it would be beyond foolish not to pay what it takes to keep Pasta in Boston.
The other best players are either locked in already or sailing off into the sunset, and there is nobody left that will really demand a major commitment. They hypothetical flexibility from not paying him does nothing of you can’t fill the gaping hole it would leave on the roster.
