The blown call on Grant being out of bounds, for one of 50 examples, was objectively worse. What a weird freak out by James. He’s losing it.
Why was it weird? He clearly got hacked when attempting the game winning shot at the buzzer but the refs swallowed the whistle. There isn’t a single player in the NBA who wouldn’t have gone crazy in that moment. Nobody in that moment thinks about a random call earlier in the game that was missed.

I’ve seen a missed foul in that situation many many times and of course players argue. You get upset, they blew the call, you move on. There were many worse or just as bad calls in that game and nobody else prostrated themselves on the floor…..oh wait except for Schroeder that one time (and that one wasn’t a bad call).

Dramatically falling to the court as if saying “how could this egregious act possibly happen to me???”, screaming and screaming, declaring it only happens to you and implying there is a conspiracy against you - that’s weird. His ego is so big he thinks that things are supposed to go his way and when they don’t he takes it as a personal attack rather than a standard NBA fuck up.

Also I’ve seen the Lakers get so many ridiculous calls and breaks over the years I think it’s funny how apoplectic they and their fans are when something goes wrong.

Edit - that flagrant call on Brogdon is usually not called as such and dragged the Lakers back in the game.

These last two pages are why even doing anything other than laughing at the officiating is a waste of time. Sometimes your team is the bug and others its the windshield. I watch too much sports and it largely evens out even if posters here will tell you otherwise (mostly because they spend the majority of their sports viewing time with a rooting interest and of course the refs are against your team - that clearly was/was not a foul!).

Right. Fans remember the calls that seemed to go against their team and have no memory of the bad calls that favored them or the lucky bounces that went their way. I’m as guilty as anyone.

However, I am quite sure that I am being objective and am without a hint of bias when I say that the Lakers deserve a decade of hell.

Anthony Davis, who laid a complete egg, blaming the refs is awesome.

I'd say Brogdon shut him down, but more than anything Davis looked some combination of rusty/hurt/winded. 20 minutes in the second half and OT, and he managed just 5 points on 9 shots.

NBA games cannot be officiated accurately enough to really know with a high degree of confidence who deserved to win a game decided in OT or by 3 points or less according to the rules of the sport. It's not humanly possible.

(Edited multiple times to make that internet lawyer proof.)

If the ref who didn't call the foul bet the over (234), they wouldn't have had it at the end of regulation (210), but not calling the foul and allowing overtime would've given it a real chance (and it was a very high scoring overtime and passed it easily). Any conspiracy theory that the league wanted the Lakers to lose is completely insane (they are the most popular team in the league, of course the NBA wants them in the playoffs), but an official placing a bet on the game and blowing the whistle accordingly wouldn't exactly be unprecedented in recent history. As anyone who roots for the Lakers should know and appreciate.

Four incorrect calls in last 2 minute report of Celtics-Lakers for end of regulation and OT. Three favored Lakers, one favored Celtics (missed foul call on LeBron)

Like everyone else, referees make mistakes. We made one at the end of last night’s game and that is gut-wrenching for us. This play will weigh heavily and cause sleepless nights as we strive to be the best referees we can be.

Honestly an embarrassing statement from the refs. I can't believe how much whining as gone on from the Lakers and the media about one missed call.

Here
Absolutely pathetic kowtowing to the Lakers and LeBron. Three of the four missed calls are against the Celtics and they specifically reach out and apologize to LeBaby. He'll get 50 ft each of the next 10 games, too.

LeBron is pissed because he was already picturing the adoring press conference and national media coverage -- this was a King James contribution to the Lakers vs. Celtics rivalry, and it was ripped away from him by a buncha refs.

So yes, genuflect you hapless zebras! Lose that sleep! Apologize and give me the favorable whistle! But not Monday, because I'm going to be petulant and skip the Nets game and have AD join me. Take that, Adam Silver! Suck on that, fans!

The teams in the play-in slots out west are presently Dallas, Phoenix, Utah and the defending champs.

I will take my chances with all of those teams over this horrendous Lakers squad.
We really have any faith in the Clippers, Jazz, Mavs, Wolves and even the Pelicans with their own constantly hobbled big man?

It's not hard to poke holes in anyone not near the top of the conference, but all of these teams have had stretches where they've looked legit (obviously the Jazz are fools gold, but they were hot to start the year). When exactly have the lakers been better than average so far this year? Yet to hit .500.

Situationally I understand why Lebron melted down. They need EVERY game. 1 game in the standings may be a huge swing whether their season continues, or not. Celts/Lakers is obviously a huge rivalry. National TV. Brutal no call. Did he overcook his meltdown?, yes, but I see the reason behind it. Refs were absolutely atrocious.
By the way, I haven’t seen it mentioned but with regard to the Pat Bev foul on Jaylen in the last 10 seconds the reg 100 feet away at center court had to come running in to make the call, not the ref, 2 feet away with a clear view.

My big issue is that I'm just so exhausted by the Lakers and the space they continue to occupy in the minds of the media, the league, and general fandom. And obviously it is because they have the largest fanbase, probably, and they have LeBron. But they stink. They are in 13th place. They have been bad for a number of years. Their team is bad and plays bad basketball. They do not do anything particularly exciting, other than LeBron continuing to get his numbers at this stage in his career yet. Yet they are constantly the center of attention. The amount of media coverage they get is obnoxious. It came to a head today, when I was looking to listen to a podcast for a drive, and went to see what the latest episode of the Lowe Post was--it was Zach talking to Ramona Shelborne about a trade the Lakers made for a bench player. No thanks.

LeBron has been a giant baby all season. He's complained about his teammates. He's complained about the Lakers front office. He's complained about the league. He's complained about the referees. Seeing him collapse to the parquet floor, in complete shock that he didn't get a foul call (when he still had overtime to play) should be incredibly embarrassing for him. Imagine Michael Jordan, Bill Russell, Larry Bird, Tim Duncan, Kareem, etc. being driven practically to the fetal position by a missed call in a regular season game, when there was still a game to win? What a sad, pathetic display. His team isn't any good and his time as the elite force in the league expired a couple years ago. Go away.
