Gotta be a pretty good team to win when you only play one period
Remember when the Patriots were at their peak, and they could play like dogshit for 3+ quarters, but never really be out of it because they just didn't beat themselves? And then they would play good for 6 minutes and win?

That's what this team feels like right now.

This team flipped a switch. Between this ability and Ullrich, team’s got a hell of shot at glory

First 2 were a slog, but turned out to be an incredible day. So jealous of the folks who were there. I don't get homesick often, but today was one of those days.

From wanting a trade a year ago to scoring the game-tying and game-winning goals in the big national game. Happy for Jake.

And getting a new contract mixed in along the way.
I’ll take my full serving of crow on JDB’s maturation away from Butch. I didn’t think he’d ever come to keep his feet moving night in, night out. I guess I just didn’t anticipate the salutary effects of The Full Monty. He’s balls out now. ;-)

Not for nothing, but DeBrusk also went flying in to grab someone who got tangled up with Marchand in the second. Like, to the point where the second Penguin in was there substantially later and couldn’t even get at Marchand because the linesman was in the way. He does that a surprising amount when he’s on.

I saw that. It was both sticking up for 63, and maybe a little of making sure 63 doesn't lose his mind. Regardless, Debrusk is really a case study in something about pro athletes.

Thanks for this observation. Jake used to be criticized for being simultaneously disengage/floating around the periphery and immature/overly emotional. This year‘s DeBrusk keeps his feet moving, goes to the right place at the right time and is a consummate team player. Being on a line with Bergeron and Marchand has set him on a fantastic path.

Man it was fun watching the post game interview. He was so happy.

I started noticing it post-deadline last year. There were a couple games where he looked like the only guy playing for his teammates. Reading between the normally reticent hockey player lines, last season really seemed to be a down one, culture-wise. Winning can breed chemistry and all that, but this year seems a lot better in that regard, even if Nosek keeps getting his ass kicked by people who hit Pasta clean. :)

Any postgame comments on the ice quality?

That was a gutsy win in a game where the Bruins seemed to will themselves to the victory against the trajectory of the day being a little off. That was impressive for what it was, but much of the hockey seemed pretty rugged. I'd imagine that the ice sucked but the broadcasters spent most of their time gushing about how great everything was?

This counts as a home win, right?
Penguins' owner owns the rink, therefore road game?*

*I know this is not true.

Quick question: was texting all game with a buddy from Pittsburgh dating back to my college days and he was all up in arms about the Marchand hit/collision at center ice with about a minute and a half left to play. He says it was interference. I saw it differently, I thought both players were looking back at the puck and unwittingly skated into each other, bracing only at the last second or two.
I know this is the B’s game thread, but would love an unbiased opinion on this one please and thank you.
