Gonna be a big night for Hingham’s Matty Beniers. First time playing against his childhood team. Great kid and a helluva hockey player. I would guess he’s one of the favorites for Rookie of the Year.

Anyone know what Nosek's issue is? Montgomery said "he can play but can't take faceoffs," thus Koppanen.

Yeah probably an hand, wrist arm or shoulder. To be honest, I'm not sure why they wouldn't just give him a couple of days off to heal isntead of having him play through it.

He grew up a mile or so from me and he's my son's age -- I think they must have gone to school together (at least until high school). I'm looking forward to seeing him.

it’s wild that it’s the middle of January and we’ve only had 5 game thread starters.
This means we haven't been developing any depth. If a game thread starter or two goes down, we might find ourselves in trouble.

I’m not sure why nosek is a must play if hurting and unable to take face offs, but this Montgomery guy seems to know what he’s doing. Outside of being valuable on the penalty kill he seems like the worst 5 on 5 player that plays regularly.

I've been thinking about it since around Christmas and there was no way in hell I was going to be the first one to bring it up
But if they lose, how will we know for sure? Maybe, for example, it will be because some other poster didn't wear his lucky underwear or wasn't sitting in his usual spot on the couch.

Perhaps some posters who haven't started a game thread could start posting some Providence Bruins game threads?
Shit if NESN + would televise Providence games like they televise Woo Sox games we probably could get some decent game thread traffic in there.

Even though they'd likely cost more money to produce, it seems like P Bruins games would have to attract more eyeballs than that Dining Playbook show or certainly the Mad Fisherman (or just about anything else that NESN broadcasts). Wonder why we don't get even a few games a year.

I remember that they used to back in the 90’s IIRC.

If not for that unfortunate non-icing call, this would be The Napkin’s 21st consecutive game thread started, and we’d only have 4 game thread starters on the season!!

The AHL has a subscription streaming service. That's probably part of it, they want you to buy their product rather than show it for free.

So, why not air a game or two as a "loss leader" to entice people to sign up? (I didn't know about that service, so thanks for that. I'm going to have to look into it.)

EDIT: Oh, they're having a "watch for free" day on Saturday and Providence plays in Hartford at 7 pm. Looks like you just need to create an account, and not provide a CC number or anything. https://www.watchtheahl.com/#/

it's ahl.tv. It looks like they do have a free trial coming up this Saturday. They have team packages or all access packages at various price points.

I'm with you, I'd love to have them on air more but the AHL logistics kind of suck. The AHL is driven by gate revenue so as a result Providence plays like 90% of their games Friday-Sunday. On the NESN side they arleady carry Hockey East on Friday nights and the Boston Bruins play almost every Saturday. The bulk of the Sunday's are up against the Pats/NFL. The random weekday games are usually road games. It's probably just not worth it to send a crew to do the games. When they do the WooSox it's usually August/September when nothing else is going on.

You are watching a guy right in front of you try to drag his leg to stay onside, you can't than stick handle around the blue line.
