That’s what we need—-more attacking the rim. Denver’s perimeter D is just ok.

Celtics D would need to improve to be “just ok” so hopefully that happens in second half

Surprising they’re only down 8. Feels like it should be about 20

Jokic has a habit of being openly demonstrative with annoyance at his teammates. He didn't like that Porter Jr. didn't help on that Tatum drive. Lifted his arms incredulously. I mean, he wasn't wrong, but that's gotta be grating.

Ended up being a good quarter all things considered. Nuggets played way too loose and Celtics focused on getting to the rim. Feels like the deficit could easily be double.

sorry, no, there was no shot block—watch the replay.

Also, the rules don’t work like that—-the shot block and any foul are totally distinct, there is no situation by nba rules that results in the either/or you describe. It’s not the nfl—tipping the ball does not excuse contact. Just FYI.

That call was not technically correct, as about ten of us who follow this closely all noted.
I did watch the replay, and saw contact between the defender's hand and the ball before the shooter released the ball.

Contact between the defender's hand and the ball that precedes contact on the shooter's wrist excuses the subsequent contact if the initial contact dislodges the ball.

Technically was your phrase. The fact that officials rarely make a call does not mean that they can't or shouldn't, and would be a waste of a coach's challenge,

Smart and Brogdon (combined): 1-10 (0-5 3PM) for 2 points. Yuck

Feel good about this game if their three-point shooting even somewhat reverts to the mean in the second half.
Agree. If they shoot 16% from three again in the 2nd half I guess we just chalk it up to the altitude combined with the NYE hangover but I think this Celtics team is going to play a lot better in the coming 24 minutes.

Could Joker be even better if he decided to get into LeBron-shape? Or is being padded an integral part of his superpowers?
Joker & Luka have different body types then Bron. More barrel-chested

Jokic/Luka play a lot of games/minutes...the fitness stuff is overblown IMO

I trust Tatum to realize that people are going to point to this game (and any against Doncic/Embiid/Giannis) as MVP factors and go off in the second half.

And by go off I mean make sure that Brogdon and Smart don't shoot any more.

Yeah all things considered, between ref shenanigans and the team looking uninterested in defense in the first quarter (or in shooting 3s that even so much as hit the rim), down 8 is pretty auspicious. We don't have to do all that much to turn this thing around early in the 2nd half.

Sure, different body types, I get that. But Joker could transform a bit -- Kevin Love might be a better comp (check out his UCLA days).

I do think that Joker gets gassed -- a higher level of fitness would help, now and when he's older. I just want the guy to be the absolute best he can be -- I am an unabashed Joker fanboy.

Luka's young and his body will forgive him for a few more years. By the time he's 27 like Joker, I'd think that added fitness would help him remain elite.

Every time they get a little something going they have a possession where one guys touches the ball and misses a contested shot. Dumb basketball. And they aren’t contesting the perimeter. First half 2021-style defense.

I cannot see this song without thinking of Crystal Pepsi and subsequently the SNL parody of that commercial.

I know about “hand is part of the ball” and “high five” rules near this, but neither is what you suggest. If you can cite something, helpful…I’m still not sure there is anything in rules to support your description of this.
