It's hilarious. The combination of getting sacked from Chelsea last time for defensive disorganization and trying to keep Everton up at the ass-end of the table have completely broken his brain and he's taking this squad of nothing but attacking midfielders, sitting almost all of them and is putting even more defensive lineups out there than Potter was when goalscoring was already their problem. It almost made sense at Madrid, made less sense at home chasing goals against Madrid, and is the funniest thing in the world when he puts out the same, 1 - 1.5 attackers depending what you think of Gallagher lineup against Brentford.
You would think this would totally tarnish his reputation but given the merry go round of managers in the EPL, some team will probably hire him because they want a “ name” of a manager. Personally, I think he needs to start managing in the lower leagues, get a team promoted to have any chance in management as far as evolving. I have no idea about his coaching skills but some great coaches are not good managers. The most obvious one for me was Don Howe.

California. Duh.
Sheffield United clinched 2nd place in the Championship, so they are joining Burnley in the Premier League next season.

Luton Town is in the top playoff position right now. They have had a crazy couple of decades. They went from being in the Championship in 2006-07 to being relegated 3 years in a row into non-league football, and were still in League Two in 2017-18. Now they're a playoff run away from being in the top division for the first time since 1991-92, the year before the Premier League was formed.

The rest of the playoff chase is crazy. 3rd-6th make it, and only 4 points separate Coventry City in 5th and Swansea City in 12th with 2 games remaining.

Just tuning in to catch up on the footy world today. Chelsea lost again? My aching sides. That’s something like 13 losses and 1 draw in Frank’s last 14 games. Whatever the decision was to hire him, it wasn’t based on football.
Just 30 goals on the campaign too. To be fair, their defense is not terrible but, man, 65 goals combined (for and against) in 32 games. What a snooze.

Were Chelsea as successful as Twitter recently?
I can’t define what you call success as far as Twitter; but as far as some rich dude taking over what was a successful company and turning it into turmoil in such a short space of time .. I’ll stand by it. They’ve become a laughing stock. Much like Twitter .

They won Champion's League literally two years ago.
My apologies.. I was more or less honestly asking. I know they've been top four, but didn't think it was up to the success of one would think of as successful Chelsea. It is true that none of the moves they've made this year have worked.

I think that's fair... I just wasn't sure exactly when Boehly had taken over.

If Zomp wants to delete my post about Twitter fair dues. I thought it was a fairly “ banter” type analogy . And trust me, I mostly avoid V& N, they eat their young in there. Although admittedly as a lurker there, I’ve learned a shit load.

All good. I wish I lived in the world where your thing was true honestly and they were Twitter as a business level mediocre, but up until Abromavitch had to sell they were doing standard Abromovitch things of churning through players and managers messily and winning stuff while doing so. Now, so far at least, twice the mess, none of the winning, which has been fun.

On the Thiago handball, I like the no call through my Reds colored glasses but that one could have gone either way. I think he got the benefit of the doubt because he was falling down when it hit his arm. Regardless, it wasn't getting overturned either way by VAR so the call on the field stuck. I'd be complaining if it happened to Liverpool for sure....a true 50-50 call.
To a neutral, it was more like a 99-1 call. I have no idea how that wasn't whistled. Arm, hand, hand to where he literally stops the ball with his hand.

Everton are in 19th after Forest's win over Brighton. Newcastle comes to Goodison tonight. This fixture was crucial in Everton's fight to stay up last season; Calvert-Lewin and Iwobi combined for an improbable win in stoppage time after Toffees were down to 10. But Newcastle are better and Everton are worse than last season. Everton Twitter is nervous, with lots of folks saying that it could be the last night PL game at Goodison, ever.

Everton were not good in Doucoure's suspension. His swat at Kane's face might have been the most impactful play of the season, on the downside. A player wo was marginalized by Lampard became the energy source in the middle of Dyche's 4-5-1. His finishing touch has been poor- if he had buried even one or two of his several golden chances we'd be a lot closer to safety - but he's always making things happen. Without him, Dyche tried a 4-4-2 which was a disaster. A loss at Old Trafford was not surprising, but to go to a more attacking formation without anything resembling a PL striker, let alone two, was madness. But trying it in the home game to a struggling Fulham was a bad idea. That was a game that Everton had to get something from and we put in one of the worst performances of the season. Started poorly also at Palace with DCL and Iwobi in a two up top; once Dyche switched back to the 4-5-1, Calvert-Lewin was still too isolated, he never gets enough service, but he troubled the Palace CB's all day. On the clubs' form, looking at it in a vacuum, you'd have to be happy with the point from the 0-0 draw, as Palace had been flying. But a point was not enough, and now we have games with Newcastle, City, and Brighton in the run-in.

It might be as simple as win tonight and stay up, lose tonight and go down.

Goodison is always a madhouse at night. I expect it to be extremely hostile for Newcastle with Gordon coming back for his first visit. I doubt he starts - tbh he's been poor - but I even wonder if Howe puts him in the squad.

With Doucoure back, Calvert-Lewin looking healthy, and a rocking Goodison- you have to hope, right?

Playing Gordon would be malpractice on Howe's part. The kid is a headcase at the best of times with a friendly crowd. He'd set a new record for quickest sendoff in history.

Spurs start Forster in goal (yay!), Lenglet at LCB (yay!!), and Perisic at LWB (yay!!! FML). Also Richarlison in for Deki at RW. That shit doesn't make any sense to me, unless Mason sets the team up to play into Kane and Richy's feet and keeps Son on the last defender's shoulder. Danjuma is the logical replacement for the RW-playmaker role. That's an incredibly aggressive attack setup, that when paired with 3 ATB leaves the MF very vulnerable...AGAIN.

Everton have worked their socks off this half, but the problem is they're fuckin terrible. They win the ball then give it back two passes later. Inept in the opposition box.
They've turned up, they just suck so bad. Already a goal down, God knows where they'll get a goal from.

If Richarlison scored a third as often as he went down looking for a cheap call he'd be the greatest player in the world.

This is baaaaad. Players are completely clueless and consequently can't even do basic things like closing down the ball in the defensive third (!) correctly anymore. Perisic is utter dogshit. There's really no reason to play him anymore. Put some academy kids out there for all I care. Richy is frustrating, but he's at least working his ass off. Most of the other players don't even look like they can be bothered to put in a shift. Every attack down Porro's side is dangerous. I don't know how Danjuma doesn't start for this side.

Working his ass off a lot, but he never showed up in the picture on that "break" and that irritated me.

Great pass by Eriksen, you hate to see it.

Wow, that was awful defending by Dier, he basically showed Rashford the path to goal.

I think the three forward players for Tottenham have been working hard and trying to actually do something out there.

Everyone else is sleep-walking. It seems like Spurs don't have the numbers forward to really score, but also somehow don't have numbers back to stop attacks as United surge forward. Headed right out of European play for next year.

Some high quality shit housery from the Newcastle players. A concerted and impressive effort to disrupt the flow of the game.

Newcastle go two up. Everton are readying Maupay to come on...he's the cavalry. I worry about Everton, i think they're going down.

It would be sad to see Everton go down, but they really don't deserve to stay up. They simply aren't good and there have been a million mistakes at every level that have compounded their misfortune.

Wilson gets his second, Newcastle's third, triggering an exodus from Everton fans keen to get a clear road home so they can weep peacefully into their respective bed sheets.

Everton score a freak goal from a corner kick, then Newcastle get one right back Isak beats about 4 players with no pitch to work with - you have to see it to believe it - then Murphy scores with the tap in. Isak should have been taken out, but nary a glove was laid on him.

Richarlison somehow working himself to get in the perfect spot right where De Gea will need to dive to have a chance at stopping the shot is wizardry.

I don't think any of it matters because no way was De Gea touching that shot from Porro.

It's getting harder to see how Newcastle don't end up in the Champions' League next year. Eight points up on Villa with a game in hand, 9 points up on Liverpool, and the last 6 fixtures include Leeds, Southampton, and Leicester. It will be *really* interesting to see what they do this summer. This is the 98th percentile outcome for this squad (99th would have been this same PL season plus winning the League Cup); I don't think they are good enough or deep enough to make any kind of impact in the PL next year while also acclimating to Europe. So if the Saudis plan to really fire the money cannon, shit is going to get weird this summer.

Spurs have wasted 3 or 4 really good chances in the last five minutes, including Dier heading wide from about 4 yards out.

I don't even care if they get something from this game, it's good just to see some cohesion and fight from this team. Mason is no tactical genius but at least he's got everyone pulling in the same direction for the time being.

That Bournemouth win was a terrible result for Everton. Perhaps even worse than their own loss to Newcastle.

Second match in a row where a Spurs player is rugby tackled by a guy on a yellow with no card, what even are the rules of this game?

EDIT: I am literally thinking of the one from City/Arsenal, my brain is broken by this season. Still, same shit two days in a row is also weird.

I have to have faith because it’s my club but it’s hard for me to come up with a football - based reason why you’re wrong.

I had a work function today so I didn’t sit and watch. I just caught snippets here and there. So typical - start strong, lots of endeavor, little quality, no luck but not creating any either, and nothing done to capitalize on the few good chances before the dam breaks and the superior side just crushes them.

Similar to Forest hosting Brighton- the difference being that Forest- like every other side- has at least a couple of guys who can score to put you back into it. Calvert Lewin should have had one today, he looks in good enough form that if he’d been healthy they’d be 15-16th, even a handful more goals scattered thru the season would have done it, but they just can’t score.
