    Jack Edwards to retire

I had the good fortune to bump in to Jack at the hotel bar after a Bruins road game against the Islanders. It was a good Bruins win and Jack was enjoying himself. For about an hour he was absolutely one of us - a fan of the Bruins. He was destroying Zach Senyshyn game, soft and stupid. I...

    If you were a ballplayer...

I was a decent athlete and ball player as a kid growing up on the south shore. We move to Gainesville, Florida during my freshman year of high school. I played Babe Ruth and couldn’t believe how much bigger the players were in Florida. I pitched in a game against a son of Roger Maris. My...

The Pantheon of Boston announcers: Who you got?

I know Jack Edwards has lost a lot on his fastball but he’s an all time great in my book. I regularly go to the Dafoomie YouTube channel to watch and listen to the 2011 Cup run. Absolutely passionate about the Bruins. Bonus if you’ve ever bumped in to Jack post game at the hotel bar...

2024 Lineup (What we actually have - no trade speculation.)

I’m not making a case for Refsnyder but his last few years versus LHP have been very good.

Everybody hurts sometimes: The latest injuries

The bolded just isn’t true. Dalbec has had success against LHP in his career. It’s unfortunate the Sox cannot utilize him properly.

Let's Predict the 2024 Red Sox Season

Cut from earlier in offseason Path to 90 wins post. … what it would take from the current/potential roster to reach 90 wins next year. Starting point of 78 wins in 2023. Health of SP (+3) - Nobody gets drilled if face by a batted ball - Bello’s arm doesn’t fall off - Bonus: One additional win...

    2004 WS Celebration

You just love to stir some shit. I clearly stated it wasn’t a comparison. I said I can separate the ball player from the man. Regarding the book… it was well done. I expected more great American hero. I left thinking Williams was a raging asshole, an abusive figure to almost everyone...

    2004 WS Celebration

The comparison wasn’t to compare Schillimg to Williams. It was how I can separate person from ball player. I say that because the last book I read on Ted Williams really painted a terrible picture. Montville authored. From a high pedestal for Ted down towards the bottom for me. Kind of...

    2004 WS Celebration

I can easily separate Schilling the ball player from Schilling the man. Not much different than the way I celebrate Ted Williams the player.

    Offseason rumors

I agree. It’s why I don’t think people consider Snell an Ace. Two full season as great but not much in between.

What if you could change one thing - Red Sox edition

September 21, 1975. Tiger pitcher Vern Ruhle comes inside and hits Jim Rice. Broken hand, not available for playoffs. Sox lose to Reds in Series. My first year as an everyday Sox fanatic. Jim Rice was my favorite player. I like to think if Rice plays, we win the Series and it removes...

    Offseason rumors

I think it comes down to stuff. Montgomery just isn’t close enough to Ace level to high $ and long contract. A couple guys on that list are a better bet (still might not be a good bet) to offer Ace level performance for a few years.

    Offseason rumors

Boras pants get tighter with every negative story on Sox spending. Keeps the Sox as a potential team that might be forced to cave to fan demand and make another team pay up.

    Offseason rumors

This is the truest statement. Sox and every other team wanted YY. They thought they were in the hunt until it became clear to them (and the NYY, Mets, etc) that it wasn’t going to happen. That huge slot of money ($200m?, $250m?, $300m+?) was for a special player… not just to spend elsewhere...

    Offseason rumors

I just can’t understand how TM can throw “embarrassing” in to the comment. He doesn’t add how much Boras might be looking for. He doesn’t offer an opinion on how much the Sox might pay. He doesn’t even try to offer how much JM might be worth in his opinion. He does start by say $31m...

Anchor Investment or Distressed Asset? Where the Red Sox Fit in the FSG Portfolio

I’m not an arbitrage trader but that’s not a smart business bet. We like to think that billionaire owners can/should take on the risk but most don’t flush money away. Of course, ego and advanced age can get the money flowing. I believe right now FSG would spend $300m+ on premier talent…...
