Let's Predict the 2024 Red Sox Season

I think I said 85 wins last year. I was wrong, but I'm going to stick with it. Team leader in Wins? Pivetta -Team leader in Losses? Houck -Team leader in Saves? Jansen -Team leader in ERA (qualifying)? Bello -Team leader for Batting Average (qualifying)? Yoshida -Team leader for OPB...

How much does winning and losing affect your fandom?

I grew up a Sox fan and will probably always remain one. I have followed the team since the 1970s, when I was a kid growing up in Central Mass. That said, I want two things out of the fan experience: Good baseball and reasonably priced tickets. Last season, there was no guarantee of the former...

    2024 Rotation and Bullpen

Thanks for that clarification. I had forgotten about Houck getting hit. That probably meant he had some rust when he came back, too, which would have affected his numbers.

    2024 Rotation and Bullpen

This is why I think Crawford gets the nod over Houck in the rotation. His stats were better in almost every area, and he pitched 129 innings last season. If the question is "Who's more likely to give you 175-200 innings," and be reasonably effective, Crawford seems like the answer.

McAdam: “Full Throttle” may mean business as usual

Yeah, this piece is very thinly sourced and speculative. It's written with a lot of hedging, too. Always a sign that a story is more of a thought balloon than a foundation stone.

    Nadir

Game 6 in 1986 is still the low point for me. I was 16, in high school in rural central Mass. The Pats had gotten crushed in the Super Bowl earlier that year, but it was amazing they'd gotten that far. Between the Celtics winning it all and Doug Flutie beating Miami, it really felt like a great...

It's the halfway mark. Where we at?

Someone has to win the division, and I kind of like this young Orioles team. They don't preen quite so much as the Rays, and as a club they're due.

It's the halfway mark. Where we at?

I think I picked the Sox to win 85 games, so they're about where I thought they'd be. Maybe I shouldn't be admitting this here, but I don't have strong feelings about how this season goes, as long as it's an improvement on last season, which is what it looks like so far. I like the trajectory, I...

Let's Predict the 2023 Red Sox Season

85 wins -Team leader in Wins? Kluber -Team leader in Saves? Jansen -Team leader in ERA (qualifying)? Sale -Team leader for Batting Average (qualifying)? Yoshida -Team leader in HR? Devers -Team leader in Stolen Bases? Enrique Hernandez -Team leader in HBP? Turner -Player who plays the majority...

Do you think that Chaim Bloom came to Boston with a bad rap?

This is a really great discussion. I didn't vote, because I don't have really strong feelings about Bloom. But reading the thread brings up a question: I wonder how big an adjustment a top executive has to make when he goes from a small-market and small-budget team to a big one. It stands to...

Red Sox Rumors - Just Kidding

I think all the Gurriel talk might stem from this speculative SI piece from Wednesday. It's interesting, if read as an educated guess, but whenever I see "could" in a headline, I tend to ignore the main thrust.
