FanGraphs Positional Power Rankings by Team - The Pen

This is in no way meant to detract from all these posts and the potentially interesting info / discussion that'll come from them... but just confirming that there's no rotation post? Or did I just miss it?

    2004 WS Celebration

Love this, thank you. This is just the kind of memory I need to get on board with the new season and stop over-thinking everything going on around the team. Let's just enjoy some baseball, dammit! Would love to be back at Fenway for all this. Might look into tickets and a train up from Philly...

Sox have published a page of every player pronouncing their own name:

That's so smart. I'm a big fan of this and would imagine lots of teams do the same soon.

    2004 WS Celebration

To be clear, I am fairly unhappy with the direction of the team in recent years... but yeah. This feels like a big stretch.

    2004 WS Celebration

Just chiming in to note that the conspiracy theory talk about doing a 2004 celebration to boost sales is absurd. They were always going to do something this year. I also think doing something on opening day along with a Wakefield celebration is totally reasonable. There was no way they couldn't...

2024 Red Sox: Better, Worse, or About the Same?

This is well said. I really want the Sox to do well, and it would be cool to see a bunch of these players take big steps forward and push them into the conversation in a big way. I just don't think it's super likely. The pitching just feels too thin. I'm really excited about the improved...

2024 Red Sox: Better, Worse, or About the Same?

Yup, they weren't as good as they were during the first half, and not as bad as they were to end things. (I mean, obviously they won, and lost, those games so they were exactly that good and bad at those times. I just figure that they were always destined to be about a .500 club, and I feel...

2024 Red Sox: Better, Worse, or About the Same?

I think they'll be within a range of last year's total such that it'll be hard to say whether they're really "better" or "worse." So, I voted "about the same." To me, that's 75-80 wins or so.

Lucas Giolito has an elbow issue.

Yup, he had an all-star first half before everything went to shit. And Lackey wasn't terrible his first season, but both he and Clement had very long stretches of just awful performance before they finally got off the field.

Lucas Giolito has an elbow issue.

Oh, I remember. And then after June, he pitched to the tune of a 6 ERA, followed by a 6.6 ERA the following year in 65 innings, and then his career was over.

Lucas Giolito has an elbow issue.

Totally valid, I somehow forgot about the physicals necessary before signing deals.

Just updated my vote / pick accordingly.

Lucas Giolito has an elbow issue.

Seems entirely possible... remember how bad Lackey and Matt Clement were before we discovered their arms were shredded?

Lucas Giolito has an elbow issue.

Holy shit... putting aside all of the agita of the past few years, the Sox really do feel snakebit with injury troubles.

    Offseason rumors

That was my thought too. Forgot that Kim was still on the team that year.

Stacy Wakefield has passed away from cancer

I can’t believe it… that’s far, far more than any family should have to deal with in less than a year. Glio and pancreatic cancer is like winning the shit lottery, having them both happen to a married couple in the span of a year is unfathomable. Those poor kids.

Let's Predict the 2024 Red Sox Season

Voted 81-78, choosing 80 as my vote. I'm too lazy to do the tie-breaking stuff, but I always appreciate the work that goes into it. EDIT, 3/5: changed my vote to 74-77, and choosing 75 as my vote after the Giolito news. EDIT: 3/26: OK, let's do this for real. I'm choosing 78 as my final vote...

    Rest in Peace, DaveRoberts'Shoes

I didn’t know Chris, but the stories in this thread say it all. He struck me as an exceedingly kind, intelligent, and fun poster. His obit drives that home to an extreme degree - what a great life, and he’s gone way too soon. Major condolences to all his friends and family. $10 going to his...

Why the Red Sox may be missing a chance to accelerate their build (Speier Article)

Add me to the list of people who thought the Sox were going nowhere last year. At no point did I think the roster was even close to contending for a World Series, even at their high point in July. The pitching and defense were just not nearly good enough... it felt highly obvious to me, and...
