His Royal Chaimness or Will the Bloom Come Off the Rose?

The guy who knows how to build a winner will be smoking a cigar in Philly tonight while His Royal Chaimness is in the basement with Henry and the nerds eeking out the hidden value of criminals, middling prospects, and injured free agents - calculating how to pacify the fans and hold on to what's...

    Red Sox Trade Deadline 2022

No I did not, repeating is tough and doesn’t require blowing the team up. And, from my view, that includes the firing of Dombrowski - a guy that knows how to go get ball players. The Smart Guys knew exactly what they wanted which was to slash the payroll and take profit so they went and got a...

    Red Sox Trade Deadline 2022

That 2018 team loaded with homegrown stars and stud additions had the Red Sox among the elite and an envy of many. So far in the rear view mirror now. What a disaster. This lands squarely on the Smart Guys. They wanted a guy like Bloom and they got him. Meanwhile they’re still raking in the $.

    Red Sox in season discussion

Yes but finding a LF is a little easier than a RF suited for Fenway. I understand trades need to make sense for both teams - and I must confess to start I really have no idea what Pittsburgh needs or wants so my putting together a scenario would be lacking right out of the gate. I said I...

    Red Sox in season discussion

I'd start with Verdugo and go from there. Gives us the two CF we covet and sets up for more options at an easier position to fill - LF. As we're hearing Cora say JD is going to get reps in RF it only emphasizes the reality that RF is the position to attack. Reynolds would be the perfect guy...

    Red Sox in season discussion

Agree YTF, while I'm optimistic about a JBJ bounce back why not go after a guy like Bryan Reynolds now? Seems like a good longer term fit for RF - he's 27 with some contract control, power plays well in Fenway, and we have the chips to do it.

    PTBNLs named in Benintendi/Cordero trade

The destruction of a great team continues. We fire a guy to hire a guy who will build us up to be the Dodgers. Problem is we were already the Dodgers at the major league level (and possibly not near as bad as we like to think in the minors). Meanwhile Bloom is cobbling together a Rays style...

    Renfroe to Sox 1y/3.1M

I agree that after one season Verdugo appears to be a guy you build around. Which is why I think you sell high and trade him for a young top end starter with a similar build around profile. That starter fills a huge void that the free agent market doesn’t seem to offer (young and good)...

    Renfroe to Sox 1y/3.1M

True, but I enjoy watching teams that are way back into the tax a lot more than those that are not.

    Renfroe to Sox 1y/3.1M

Now sign Springer and JBJ, trade Verdugo for pitching. Bennie/Renfroe -JBJ -Springer left to right. Verdugo becomes centerpiece of trade for Snell like starter. Round out rotation with Kluber, sign Hand for closer. Back in contention with proven major league players.

If the season gets to September 1, the Red Sox luxury tax resets

I was referring to quality of some of the play I have seen around MLB and the look of the Red Sox in particular (not whether they counted or not).

If the season gets to September 1, the Red Sox luxury tax resets

Actually there were - see spring training.

If the season gets to September 1, the Red Sox luxury tax resets

Reminds of watching the scab games during the 94/95 strike. Maybe we’ll get a Brian Daubach out of all this brutality.

Pillar to Rockies for PTBNL, international slot money (UPDATE: Jacob Wallace)

Not trolling, lots of hate for Pillar and people asking why. Just as others, instead of spelling it out I pointed to Roenicke's comments - which had not been mentioned and I hold as a better reflection of Pillar than anything said here. Example from here...

Pillar to Rockies for PTBNL, international slot money (UPDATE: Jacob Wallace)

Of course the facts are irrelevant. Roenicke strongly backed Pillar as a person, a teammate, and a leader. Loved watching him play and glad he stood for what he believed.

So Trump actually did him a favor. Well done Mr. President!

SD to acquire Mitch Moreland for Hudson Potts and Jeisson Rosario

No worries there - you've just got to realize chemistry and such is irrelevant - statistical analysis is how you build a team. Platoons, shifts, and thrift store finds is how you become like the Rays. Don't forget John Henry reminded us that they won as many games as the Red Sox over the last...

Workman & Hembree to Phillies for Nick PIvetta and Connor Seabold

Bloom’s chasing the Rays not the Yanks.

Workman & Hembree to Phillies for Nick PIvetta and Connor Seabold

My son said the other day “I never thought I’d be so glad to see Heath Hembree pitch”. Sums It up. So long Heath. Not super excited about our future as thrift store shoppers.

How much have you watched so far?

If I could have voted it would be just above zero. Hard to believe what ownership has done since the 2018 Sox - most fun and very best team I've seen. But they're the Smart Guys.
