The Frailty of the Modern Pitcher

It's only a sample size of 1, but I saw an early season game, Sox at Texas, which the Sox won 2-1. It should have been an exciting game (Papelbon's first save!) But the later innings dragged on for me. I'd rather have a 5-4 game or even a 9-7 game. As an aside, it's amazing I barely remember...

Everybody hurts sometimes: The latest injuries

You're probably thinking of the playoff rule. Teams submit a 26-man roster prior to each round of the postseason. A club may request permission from the Commissioner to replace a player who is injured during a series, but that player is then ineligible for the rest of that round and the...

    The Fenway Park Experience

I still remember that image of emerging from the Fenway grandstand tunnel for the first time and taking in the bright emerald, perfectly manicured grass as a young teen 40+ years ago. It's an image and feeling that never gets old.

    Larry Lucchino dead at 78

I, too, want to thank everyone for their reflections of the full pallet of what LL meant to the Boston Red Sox, Baltimore Orioles, San Diego Padres, and those communities. I wish I could thank him for everything, but I surely appreciate a life well lived.

    Tanner Houck 2024

I watched the highlights of his 10 strikeouts and I was amazed at the distance between the bat and the ball as it crossed the plate. In some cases it looked like 8 inches, and I'll bet it averaged 4". He's a magician.

Inside Alex Cora’s Red Sox ‘culture change’ — Chemistry, competition, camaraderie (the 2024 manager thread)

And if we think of this from our own perspective (if we work for someone else), if top management told us that the company lost significant money 3 of the last 4 years, I think most or all of us, whether management or individual contributor, would be willing to try something new. I don't see it...
