    Shaw-and-tell

Yeah, pretty much. He was a lousy hitter in college -- never had a home run, and his OPSes went .536, .588, .625 before he was drafted as a senior. Drafted in the 18th round. He was pretty good in both of his first two full minor league seasons (2013-4) in A-ball and AA, however -- OPS above...

Out Out, Brief Panda: Pablo To Have Shoulder Surgery

That's Jake Lamb. Mike Lamb is emerging as a league average used car salesman / restaurant owner somewhere in Texas, I believe.

    WEEI Podcasts on iTunes

I'm subscribed to 'Boston Red Sox Baseball' on iTunes and both of those interviews are in the feed (though I haven't tried to download or play them yet because I have some catching up to do). But you say 'respective shows' so maybe you're subscribed to different things than I am? Maybe you could...

2014 Affiliate Rosters for Opening Day

I feel like that's as clear as I will ever need in my day-to-day baseball-following life. Thank you, mab.

2014 Affiliate Rosters for Opening Day

I understand, that makes perfect sense -- thank you.   I was not aware that each minor league affiliate had a 'reserve list'. I guess that answers my question about JCL (I was going to ask about Cousins also). I always presumed that if you didn't make any affiliate out of ST you just had to be...

2014 Affiliate Rosters for Opening Day

I really don't know -- didn't get to follow ST as closely as I would've liked this year -- but can't say for sure he was. He played in the Venezuelan Winter League (.909 OPS), which ends at the end of January.   Wait, this MiLB blog related to the Sea Dogs says JCL was in camp towards the end of...

2014 Affiliate Rosters for Opening Day

Anyone know what happened / will happen with J.C. Linares? Soxprospects had him as on the bubble for a spot at Pawtucket this offseason/ST, and obviously he didn't make the roster. So what happens to him now? XST -- are they allowed to do that? Is he just waiting around to be cut? Can a guy just...

Miguel Cabrera Getting 7+ year, $200M+ Extension

This Tigers team could really be something if they lock up another young star. Verlander maybe. He only has six years left on his deal, and will be just 36 when it ends. Can you bear to lose him, Mike?????????

Red Sox Annual Minor League Arrest: Jon Denney

Haha, yeah, I just went through the exact same thought process. Like, he was totally sober and mouthing off about his "[expletive]" search and the who he is and his mega $12kp/a skrilla? Less irresponsible than driving drunk, obviously, but so so much lamer...

    Os sign Nelson Cruz

That OPS is actually basically the mid-point between the MLB-wide OPS for DHs (.721) and for SSes (.683). Not a big issue, and you were probably self-consciously hyperbole-ing it up a bit, but I think people are still adjusting to this environment in which a .700 OPS is pretty close to league...

    Chris Capuano Signed: Discussion Thread

It's interesting to compare Law's deep concern about the Red Sox making a 1/2.something deal for a veteran, injury-prone, but sometimes productive lefty pitcher with Joe Sheehan's remark on one of the last R&J podcasts that he doesn't really care about dollar values for free agency signings...

    Chris Capuano Signed: Discussion Thread

Dunno how good Capuano would be in a starting role (and he probably wouldn't stay healthy for a full season in that role), but leading off the tweet with "$2.9 milion for..." as thought that matters in the slightest to the Red Sox is sort of funny. It's $2.9MM!! It's not the like the Sox are...

    Roy Halladay retires

I wonder what the AAV is on the Toronto offer in this market.   Steamer has him projected at a 3.89 ERA for next season, which is right around where his FIP was in 2012. He lost at least a couple of MPH off his fastball in 2013, though, and I'm presuming those aren't coming back any time soon...

Colin Cowherd: Yeah, he'll say it if no one else will

As someone who only remembers Colin Cowherd from the FJM days, it mostly just stuns me that he would care / feign caring about which teams are "analytically superior". Wow.
