That was then: Celebrating what was

The 46 was an 8-man box that played over the OL guards. CB's were isolated in single coverage with a FS up high. The SS walked around the LoS depending on the gap. It was designed to stop an 80's style 2-back run-oriented offense. Miami was successful against it in '85 because - according to...

That was then: Celebrating what was

Most fans in Michigan of a certain age remember Sims and put him with a considerable number of ballers (Megatron, Chris Spielman, Herman Moore, Matt Stafford, etc) who toiled for that cursed franchise. Fun fact: Sims was one of three Loins to wear #20 (Barry and Lem Barney).

That was then: Celebrating what was

In 1980, the Lions drafted Billy Sims and opened the season 4-0. Growing up in Michigan, this rendition of "Another One Bites the Dust" was everywhere for a few weeks. Spoiler: the Lions failed to qualify for the playoffs. My apologies for including it - I think this is.......not good, but I'll...

Which Super Bowl matchup do you want to see?

Bengals/Eagles seems more entertaining and it prevents another Niners trophy. As said up thread, it's all gravy now because I really wanted to see the Bills get their ass kicked.

Playing with House Money: 2022 Michigan Football

It appears UM docs are less risk-averse than the players. There was a similar situation a few years ago re medical clearance with CB Benjamin St Juste who ended up in Minnesota and later the NFL. I don't think these situations are the medical "grey shirts" that Bama was giving players a few...

    The Top 4

I agree that Michigan will beat TCU, but I wouldn't assume OSU would beat TCU based on what I've seen from the Buckeyes this year. They've been outgained for four of the past five games. And only two of those games were against Michigan and Penn St.

    The Top 4

Is Ohio St better than TCU? They should settle it on the field: it would be fun watching two Big XII teams go at it.

Playing with House Money: 2022 Michigan Football

Absolutely. It's cool if my ancient football rival wants to take on those attributes.

Nope. That Yambag fella told me to put my "ballz" back in my pants a few days ago.

OSU isn't just soft. They're moist. Soft and moist.

Playing with House Money: 2022 Michigan Football

"And that maybe this is Michigan's best, last chance to regain national relevance in college football under Jim Harbaugh." Well, except for last year. And next year. I think OSU will be more organized and maybe the weather will be more cooperative (lolz), but the Ryan Day Buckeyes don't fill...

Playing with House Money: 2022 Michigan Football

Hard to say because Nebraska is a complete wreck. Same as other weeks, I guess. There was an obligatory big play in Nebraska's scripted drive that proved harmless. Their QB escaped pressure and gained yards a couple of times - containing the edges could be an issue against Stroud. Otherwise...

Playing with House Money: 2022 Michigan Football

There was some talk on the MGoBlog Pod that the flu had gone through the team - Corum and Schoonmaker both looked wrecked near the end of the game (more than usual). JJ was definitely off target on multiple throws. Worst special teams day in the Harbaugh era. Et cetera.

    RIP Roger Angell

I am saddened to hear this. Reading his various baseball compilations got me through some hard times as a young adult. I've tried to explain baseball fandom - involving, but also beyond the Red Sox - by pointing people to the last paragraph of Agincourt and After (his wrap-up of the 1975 MLB...

    The Bill Simmons Thread

Bill's thing with anything in the 70's and 80's being influenced by cocaine really gets beat into the ground in the latest Rewatchables. I'm actually ok with Bill being a balance with more knowledgeable hosts, but his coke comments are almost as boring to me as the "on the list of the best ever"...

U8 Soccer - first time head coach and a challenging player

I would talk to his dad and get some advice on how to reach the kid. Be diplomatic, but you have to bring this kid in a little before he blows up every practice. Also recruit the dad to give some coaching to the kid for the post-practice car ride. The dad not reacting while observing isn't a...

Yankees to retire Paul O’Neill’s number

I spent a weekend on the RF porch at the old Tiger Stadium heckling O'Neill. It's strange now to think how much I hated the Yankees.
