The TrevorEnding Story: needs shoulder surgery, out for the year (4/9 update)

That's how I got mine (retired ophthalmologist). Any eye questions?

    2024 Red Sox Spring Training

I would try to answer your question, but it falls into one of the many gapes in my knowledge.

    23-24 General CBB Thread

I seldom venture from the Red Sox forum but have to give a shout out to Nebraska basketball while there is a rare opportunity. Their game against Purdue was more of a beat-down than a fluke, and they do have the best Japanese player in college basketball (Tominaga) on their roster this year.

    The 2023 Injury Thread

As a retired ophthalmologist I feel obligated to make a nonofficial guess, but it depends upon the location and extent of the fracture. Basketball players can resume action fairly soon wearing a plastic mask, but I don't remember seeing any pitchers ever wearing one. If there is any chance of...

What are you looking forward to in ‘23?

Staying up too late to finish a game, the inevitable bursts of euphoria and frustration, the surprises and disappointments, the anticipation for the next contest as the summer and (hopefully) the fall stretches on-in short, the rhythms of my life for the past 70+ years.

Matt Barnes DFA'd, traded to Marlins for LH reliever Bleier

Rockey Bleier should be great in the clubhouse. He was a bona fide war hero. Oh, wait...sorry.

    RIP Bill Campbell

Sorry to read this. He was one of my favorites with the Red Sox and all his other teams and his baseball card is displayed in my closet beside photos of Yaz and Ted. My dad had the same name. RIP to both.

    Verdugo 2023

I liked to watch him play and in my statistically impaired, early-dementia brain consider him potentially a Trot Nixon/ Mike Greenwell type of Red Sox outfielder.

    (t)PSRT - (temporary) Post-Season Rooting Transference

Don't care, so I voted for Mookie and Roberts. I would have voted for the Chiefs if the option had been there.

And on this farm he had some prospects B-L-O-O-M

You never know what tidbits of information you may discover on SOSH. I find that I went to school with Steve Renko at the University of Kansas who was one of the originators of the classic "25- cab" quip.

    Jeurys Familia Dfa’d

This softens the blow a little. (Speaking as a Nebraska football fan)

How many of these pitchers with one career Red Sox save do you remember

I spent a pleasant hour on a cold and rainy day looking for the one save Bill Monbouquette had. It occurred on June 21,1964 at Baltimore. He relieved Earl Wilson who was the winner in a slugfest, 9-6. Monbo pitched the last 4 innings of the game and gave up 1 earned run. Dick Stuart had 4 hits...

Red Sox 2022 Roster - for opening day and to keep up with moves during the season

    Red Sox Sign Jake Diekman

Diekman comes from a very small town on the Nebraska-Kansas border and has ulcerative colitis which required surgery in the past, so I have followed his career through multiple teams. He has always seemed to be a dependable guy to have in the bullpen and so hopefully will be a useful addition...

    RIP Jeremy Giambi

Did Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy Contribute to Ernest Hemingway’s Death? - American Academy of Ophthalmology (aao.org) I published this before a neurologist published an entire book on this theory. I have no knowledge that Giambi ever had head trauma or any new proof of the relationship of...

AFC and NFC Championship game thread

A game for the ages last night. I don't usually comment in this forum but, having followed the Chiefs since the days of Len Dawson, Buck Buchanan, et. al., I had to add my accolades to the performance by both teams last night. And I am decidedly apprehensive about the outcome next week. Burrow...

    Jon Lester announces his retirement

Who cares about HOF? He battled cancer and pitched for 16 years in the big leagues. He will always be a winner to me. Enjoy your retirement, Big Guy.

Red Sox player that you cared most about

Ok, to make up for originally not scrolling the entire thread before posting, here is a name which would not be mentioned otherwise. As a 10- year- old kid, this was the guy who originally got me interested in the Red Sox until I later found out he was only a temporary replacement for a better...
