    2024-25 NCAA Women's Basketball

I've been thinking about this post and have concluded I don't like it. The story is both horrible and beautiful, depending on which part you're reading. Regardless, don't forget the tissues.

    2024-25 NCAA Women's Basketball

If you ever start to get cynical about today's college athletes, grab a couple tissues and give this a read: https://www.espn.com/womens-college-basketball/story/_/id/43797060/uconn-women-basketball-paige-bueckers-azzi-fudd-caroline-ducharme-friendship-abby-zittoun Oh my goodness! A beautiful...

2024-25 UConn Men's Hoops: Defending the Throne Again

Number 3 could well be a factor in number 2. Johnson and Reed had 8 fouls in 26 minutes last night. They are going to be attacked relentlessly during the tournament and better figure out some way to stay on the floor instead of the bench.

    Not Just a Pole

I have a great print from the Brearley Collection of Foxx and Williams together. Ted looks very young and Jimmie looks very large: http://www.brearley.com/shop/product.asp%3Fid=24&cat=26.html It's a shame the Brearley prints are no longer being sold.

2024-25 UConn Men's Hoops: Defending the Throne Again

He really needs an anger management intervention. I recall having read somewhere that his wife called him out on this sort of stuff at some point a year or so ago. And I agree with Average Reds -- berating refs could very well come back to haunt both him and the team. Not a good look at all.

    2025 HoF Ballot

Nor should you apologize. Your opinions are your opinions. But how do you take into account the fact that the otherwordly nature of the stats you're relying on could have been, at least in small or large part, a direct result of the cheating they got caught at or very likely were involved in?

    How old are you?

    70. Grew up in Connecticut as a Pittsburgh Pirates fan. Roberto Clemente was my hero, probably because his name was on my Little League glove. Saw the Mets play in the Polo Grounds, but remember the drunk in front of us much more than the game. I latched on to the Red Sox when I moved back...

2024-25 UConn Men's Hoops: Defending the Throne Again

I was oh so glad that Tarris Reed didn't foul out. He looked great and they really needed him to step up in Samson Johnson's absence.

    MLB and military veterans

A growing number of retailers are also offering discounts to Veterans. Lowes (10% on merchandise), Sherwin Williams paint (15%), and Home Depot (10% on qualifying purchases) are three that I am aware of. The National Park Service also offers a free lifetime pass to Veterans. I'm sure there...

    2024-25 Syracuse MBB Thread

I agree that the sport is a shell of itself and that the whole system sucks. But on the other hand, the days of 3-year careers because freshmen can't play on the varsity and the quant local flavor of the Yankee Conference are long gone. As with many problems, the onslaught of money and...

Will you ever root for Duran again?

Not to say he's another example in the Vick mold, but some lessons and instruction from Brock Holt on how to endear yourself to the community you work in could be helpful as well. "Sorry" plus some effort to make amends goes so much further (farther?) than just saying "sorry."

Glad he's staying! Hope our tax rates don't go up to pay him.

2024-25 UConn Men's Hoops: Defending the Throne Again

"the sides are planning to escalate discussions" sounds pretty scary for UCONN fans. Dan leaving would suck big time, but who could blame him?

NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament 2024 - Welcome to the Sweet Sixteen

I'm going to date myself, but Toby Kimball and Wes Bialosuknia sounded great on my transistor radio when I should have been doing homework. The current team is so much fun to watch. The coaching staff seems to be particularly adept at making adjustments at half-time and getting the players...

Question for Duke/UNC fans: Who's your 2nd least favorite/most hated ACC team?

Duke. Rod Sellers dribbling Christian Laettner's head off the floor will stay fondly in my memory forever. I lived in NC for a couple of years, when both State and UNC won national championships. Crazy times for both.

    Best time to visit?

I echo LR. There is so much to see and do in Boston and some additional information would be helpful. The Freedom Trail is a history walking trail that would occupy most of a day, if not more: https://www.thefreedomtrail.org/

    Moves I'd Make

I like this lineup, but throw this out for consideration: Sign Hoskins to DH and back up 1B (assumes he's healthy and ready to go). I'm not convinced Soler is the answer to any of Boston's problems. That would leave Dalbec to back up 3B, assuming they have nobody else who can do it by the...

Chaim Bloom hired by St Louis

I had a co-worker who flew out to St. Louis for the final game of the 2004 World Series. He said the home crowd was very gracious in the loss and went out of their way to help Red Sox fans celebrate the win together.
