Much like Newman, the Sox are not “Ready to deliver”– The 2025 Offseason News (& rumors?) Thread

I know we are beating this horse--but I could get behind Arenado for a year...maybe two. But three? At this point, you're talking about a semi long term investment as far as the roster goes. Getting him and putting Devers at DH means there is no room for Vlad next year, unless they moved Casas...

Much like Newman, the Sox are not “Ready to deliver”– The 2025 Offseason News (& rumors?) Thread

I can’t understand how Arenado would cost anything of value. In that same vein, I can’t understand how we would expect to get anything from Yoshida. Both have relatively hefty salaries - not nothing - and their value is weighted by projection and bounce back. So I think a one-for-one makes...

Much like Newman, the Sox are not “Ready to deliver”– The 2025 Offseason News (& rumors?) Thread

I agree with this. I'm hoping that the brass believes more production can come out of what they have, rather than coming to terms that maybe Bres can't execute on the guys he wants. That's what I'm most worried about.

Much like Newman, the Sox are not “Ready to deliver”– The 2025 Offseason News (& rumors?) Thread

I think like many, I’m mixed on Bergman. I lean towards some sort of FOMO without him, but I think it’s more that dopamine hit, that someone else mentioned, and the feeling that our offseason was “successful”. I’m sure in 2027, we’ll have to jockey him and Story around in a weird way, and either...

Much like Newman, the Sox are not “Ready to deliver”– The 2025 Offseason News (& rumors?) Thread

Looks like the Astros aren’t ruling out bringing Bregman back. If they put back the 6/156 deal that they offered earlier this winter, there’s no way he says no, correct? Although I’m getting ahead of myself, this is what is most infuriating about the Redsox. They have a clear lane to shift...

Running on fumes: discussions of WEEI

Seconded. They have really good chemistry, and the show is light and really funny. I get that there is a certain demographic that listens to WEEI that wouldn’t get Jones’ and Keefe‘s humor, but I actually do find it refreshing that it isn’t as serious as previous versions of the midday show, and...

Running on fumes: discussions of WEEI

Arcand moving to nights. Nate “fitzy” Stevens and Ted Johnson will be joining Andy Hart for the afternoon show. The afternoon show is boring, but I’m not sure if this helps.

Pick one, closer or RH slugger

Reliever, but only based on the lack of impact bats are still available. And, more broadly, I’m not sure if there were any outside of Soto that I would have thought fit in well with the Redsox line up both this year and in ‘26 and on. So much can change, but I think a Tanner Scott or Jeff...

Much like Newman, the Sox are not “Ready to deliver”– The 2025 Offseason News (& rumors?) Thread

I’m not sure why Seattle would want to get rid of him, specifically when they have an absence of offense.

The Conductor: who should Breslow haul to Boston this winter?

I’d be thrilled with Profar on a two year deal. I think the biggest thing to keep in mind is that although the window appears to be opening, we don’t really know who out of the next generation will hit, and who will flop. So, while this year can and should be a fun, competitive season, these...

Much like Newman, the Sox are not “Ready to deliver”– The 2025 Offseason News (& rumors?) Thread

I can’t say you’re wrong…but, aside from Soto, and maybe Fried, what would actually make sense for the Sox to spend big on? I like teo in a vacuum, but IF and when Anthony becomes a force, he becomes a burden. I would like tanner scott in the bullpen, and maybe bregman at a 5/125 deal (pie in...

The Conductor: who should Breslow haul to Boston this winter?

I know this probably deserves to be in the media forum, but I’m a bit tired of Carrabis‘ tea leaves that largely lead to nowhere. I know he probably does have sources, but the vagueness of his tweets are pretty useless. He’s no better than the average twitter user who proclaims “I’m hearing the...

    Red Sox sign Walker Buehler

I like it a lot. Like many others, I believe in his upside…at worst, we get an injury riddled performance of a year, in which case we move in a different direction next year. We can discuss the lack of spending in the Henry thread, but as much as I’d love Corbin Burnes, I see him as likely a...

    2024-25 Yankees Offseason

I know this is from Redsox colored glasses, but I always feel like the Yankees make trade where they give up so little for what they get. Soto, Stanton, bellinger… I just get upset because the Redsox seem to always pay market rate for their deals.

Much like Newman, the Sox are not “Ready to deliver”– The 2025 Offseason News (& rumors?) Thread

I think if you trade Casas, you might be looking at Walker on a 3 year deal? There is so much unknown about expecting Devers to be a success at first, and it would stunt any move for Vlad next year. Or at least make it awkward to move one back. Casas value is low, unless the team on the other...

Much like Newman, the Sox are not “Ready to deliver”– The 2025 Offseason News (& rumors?) Thread

The Bregman noise is particularly concerning. If you squint, he’s a good player, and I’m sure he would be an upgrade somewhere. My issue with their interest is that it: a) Does NOT address their greatest need of premium pitching that is becoming more and more scarce by the day. We all get...
