Much like Newman, the Sox are not “Ready to deliver”– The 2025 Offseason News (& rumors?) Thread

While I would be thrilled with Herrera - if the Cardinals do trade him I’d be terrified of what it meant about their thoughts on his throwing. I spent some time going through his game log and looking at video of his throwing attempts and he’s a really horrific thrower, like, not sure he’s...

Much like Newman, the Sox are not “Ready to deliver”– The 2025 Offseason News (& rumors?) Thread

It would need to be limited. Maybe 1 for major league time accrual and one for pre major league time accrual. For instance, the Red Sox can’t place Perales on the 60 day because if they do it starts his major league clock. So they just have a dead 40 man roster spot for the entirety of his...

Much like Newman, the Sox are not “Ready to deliver”– The 2025 Offseason News (& rumors?) Thread

When they expanded the roster to 26 man but failed to amend the 40 man it was a real death blow to activity. That plus the domestic reserve has really stifled the path for the non elite prospects/players. There are a lot of 24-25 year olds with real talent that are a tweak away from making it...

Not unless they take the entire Arenado contract and even then probably not. I can’t imagine a scenario that involved Herrera without one of Crawford or Abreu involved.

    Big Year Incoming For Yoshida

People keep saying this and I get it, but this team was an awful contact team last year. 3rd worst K rate in the majors. Yoshida is the only elite contact hitter on the team. 12% K rate was best on the team by a substantial margin. Next best was Jarren Duran at 22%.

He also said that they are not planning on any contribution from the rookies, which I think is why he mentioned Hamilton and Grissom first. He also made it clear they aren’t looking to add right handed bats just to add them. They need to have impact.

Man, if Devers just didn’t play through injury in September last year people would really be singing a different tune. It’s becoming more obvious some people didn’t really pay attention to his season. Enormous career year that was destroyed by half of August and September. He was a monster...

I’m starting to think the Cubs are the favorite for Bregman and it’ll be a shorter term deal.

The old declining expensive player would ranked 3rd in projected positional 2025 WAR for the Boston Red Sox according to ZiPs. His salary is going to be subsidized and the costs will be basically nothing (unless other pieces are involved)

This just isn't true. He was the 3rd most valuable defensive third baseman and 15th overall most valuable defender in baseball last year. He ranked in the 95th percentile in OOA. He's an incredible defender. And while his bat has very little juice, he is still elites at chase rate and...

I played around with this a ton a while back and unless the trade gets unbelievable complicated, I really think it’s Yoshida + cash for Arenado. I can’t find a roster fit without Yoshida involved and the Cardinals have to come away with salary relief. Maybe something like Yoshida + Winkowski...

If Arenado is a pathway to using financial muscle to get Herrera than by all means, you have to do it and just figure the roster out during spring training.

Yea, Bregman is a wonky fit but if he's available on a shorter term deal he is someone they should be aggressively pursing.

Does anyone know the official day players can be transferred to the 60 day? I am expecting a pretty significant uptick in activity then. I also think MLB really needs to add 2 injured reserved spots for the offseason.

When it takes 35 seconds of looking at a model to point out it has players who aren’t even in the organization is it not valid to voice those flaws?

The Red Sox have 6 actual proven MLB starters and 4 optionable good starting arms in AAA. I'm just not sure what the hell else they are supposed to do there.
