Doogie does defense, the Sam Hauser thread

Yes. His shot is fully back (up to .405 on the season). He looks less stiff out there lately too. The back injury is obviously still not fully resolved, but it feels like they’ve figured out how to manage it effectively. I also wonder how much of the early season observation is confirmation...

Jaylen Brown 2024-25, Year 9: What they gonna say now?!

I think Jaylen’s season has a few key stories statistically. One is that he’s made a very real and very meaningful jump in his passing that is almost certainly real and durable at this point. He had settled in as a 16-17% or so assist rate guy the last several years (his career line is still...

    General Celtics thread: 24-25 edition

The thing is, both net rating and record provide us with real information we can contextualize and learn things from. What does net rating aside from the top 15% of game outcomes tell us? Why do we care about that data point? That’s the data point you added to the conversation so you cannot...

    General Celtics thread: 24-25 edition

Isn’t this more or less exactly what you would expect from a stretch of .500 ball and a high point differential? And if the results had instead been that the Celtics wins were all 15-20 point margins and the losses were all by less than 5 (as extraordinarily unlikely as that distribution is)...

1/27 - Udoka Returns Part II

That was an awful call but this is what I expected from the replay.

1/27 - Udoka Returns Part II

Pritchard is the guy we should go to with 3 seconds left for heaves. He’s not the guy who should be bringing the ball up with 6.8. That should be Tatum or sometimes Jaylen.

    1/5: Celtics@Thunder

We’re not going to win games when we shoot 20% from three. I don’t feel like we got forced into bad shooting, the shots just didn’t fall. We pretty much outplayed OKC in the other facets of the game convincingly.

    1/5: Celtics@Thunder

Hartenstein hooked his legs around White while White was vertical. That should be a flagrant on Hartenstein if it’s anything.

    1/5: Celtics@Thunder

Not sure how that possession resulted in a foul on Pritchard.

Tatum is fine. The OKC announcing crew is not.

Jaylen Brown 2024-25, Year 9: What they gonna say now?!

Jalen Williams and whoever you put second of Mitchell/Mobley have an argument too, as do LeBron and whoever you rank second out of Morant/JJJ. Jaylen is firmly in this conversation, but there’s a lot of very good second best players out there. I think Jalen Williams is the clearest argument...

Payton Pritchard says PRabbit, PRabbit on the First of Every Month

Indy did take advantage of him matchup wise. Dallas did not. The team had a 98 defense rating with Pritchard that series. The problem was that he couldn’t shoot at all that series, so the offense was bad when he was out there.

Payton Pritchard says PRabbit, PRabbit on the First of Every Month

We had this conversation about Pritchard and defense and the playoffs around this time last year. There were many here saying similar things then—Pritchard would be exposed or unplayable in the playoffs. The prior postseason stats didn’t back that up then but had a more limited sample size...

Jayson Tatum's Rise to the Top

He could win the best player on an historically great team version this season, I think. If the Celtics repeat and are a dominant team again next year he probably is a front runner next season on that basis despite Jokic’s greatness.

Jaylen Brown 2024-25, Year 9: What they gonna say now?!

I think this was more of an instance of really terrible usage of the data than an inherent problem with using data in broadcasting.

Jayson Tatum's Rise to the Top

This is not remotely a description of what Grant Williams did. He took an angle to make a tackle the way a safety does. Tatum was trying to anticipate angles with Mitchell coming off a screen. Everything happened fast and both of them probably had some visibility limits. It’s nothing like...

    11/16 - vs. Tee-dot-oh

I’d like to see us go “small” and have Hauser out there for OT.

Game 1, October 22 vs. New York

I was led to believe the story of the NBA this year was parity. Is that still the story?

    C’s tax situation

I don’t buy the premise. There is no universe where draft picks 8 years in the future are impacting roster management but $100+ million tax bills aren’t. I can see the impact on the future, but would you actually trade a dynasty now for maybe a slightly better team in a decade? Would anyone...

Celtics Offseason 2024 - Wake Me Up When September Ends

Team USA will also need Tatum in 2024 with Lebron/KD/Steph all likely gone (Embiid likely to be well past his prime too) and Wemby entering his prime. If he doesn’t play in 2028, Kerr may cost Team USA a gold despite winning this year.
