General NBA season thread: 24-25 edition

Or land a high pick in a great draft, and have a real roster around him by years 2-4 if the pick turns into something... Boston made the conference finals in Tatum's 1st and 3rd seasons, and easily could have made the Finals either time. Luka made the Mavs relevant instantly. Ja had the...

General NBA season thread: 24-25 edition

The draft pick hope is real. I like Barnes and Ingram vs. Siakam and OG, just because it's a bit more offensively-focused. I'm pretty wary of teams that have a guy like OG as a top-2 player. There's nowhere to go.

Doogie does defense, the Sam Hauser thread

I agree with the sentiment, but the red flag for me is that Joe has heavily limited his minutes (19.9/game). I'm sure some of that is injury management, but he seems to often be quite far down in the rotation even when healthy. They are far more excited to play PP bigger minutes, even though the...

Doogie does defense, the Sam Hauser thread

There have been a few bad eyetest games, but he's been Sam for the most part. The bigger issue is that they just don't feel comfortable giving him many minutes, or playing lots of consecutive games, presumably due to the back issues. Whenever I've seen him in timeouts recently, the back wrap...

General NBA season thread: 24-25 edition

I guess...if I squint, you can imagine: - Ingram is unlocked as a clear #1 guy - Barnes progresses into a Swiss army knife who doesn't need to initiate everything - Quickley provides lead offense on 2nd units - somehow they find shooting wings/guards who don't need to play tons of D

It's a big number, but 22-24% of the cap. If you think Ingram can be a lead playmaker on the wing, you pay that all day long.

Payton Pritchard says PRabbit, PRabbit on the First of Every Month

yes I have a similar humblebrag situation of "out-of-my-league wife who doesn't fuck around when beach vacation is at stake", so the dynamic was immediately apparent

    General Celtics thread: 24-25 edition

We've discussed the switch-flipping a lot, so no need to re-hash that. To me, the biggest difference this year is OKC (and, to a lesser degree Cleveland) looming as real threats. Last year the Nuggets scared people, but their statistical profile wasn't that imposing. This year, OKC is in...

General NBA season thread: 24-25 edition

It's always jarring to me when people think that the American legal system is set up to reward One Weird Trick, when it explicitly goes out of its way to not (in general) have that work.

Payton Pritchard says PRabbit, PRabbit on the First of Every Month

Wife is not letting him cancel Caribbean vacation in Feb, after spending the winter in Boston. This is 100% the reason.

    General Celtics thread: 24-25 edition

To re-visit this, since I've been watching it carefully (was concerned, as you are): Against Miami, the Celtics made a very noticeable effort to not bog down mismatching hunting with KP. Everything is - quick screens - pops to 3 - opportunistic postups if open, or late clock The coaching...

Jayson Tatum's Rise to the Top

He clearly knows that the best offensive options are: 1. Tatum puts a smaller guy under the basket (did this to Rozier a lot) 2. Tatum drags a big to the perimeter and roasts him Either of those gets the other team sending rim help or putting 2-on-the-ball really quick. However, those options...

Jayson Tatum's Rise to the Top

I think you kind of explained it right there: he likes playing basketball a lot, but he's also played a lot of it, and knows how important energy conservation is. So he'll pick and choose when to really turn it on.

Jayson Tatum's Rise to the Top

Interesting how Hanlen specifically mentioned that driving all the time takes a toll on Tatum's body, and that they try to leave "drive all the time" mode for the playoffs.
