What did YOU do that screwed the Red Sox Royally

I was there. Rainy day in April against the Rays. I went on a whim because I figured Fenway would be half-empty that day, and it was. Bought the cheapest tickets I could and then sat in box seats two rows back behind home plate, just outside of where the screen starts. Some of the best seats in...

    Is this a playoff team?

And Adell had significant red flags on his ability to make contact, with a K% around 30% in AA and AAA in 2018-2020. He was always a project.

WILL the Sox add another player and if so, who?

I think it's Casas + Kutter for Alcantara and then Bregman. 1. The fact that the Red Sox have been in on Bregman and Arenado at all can only mean that they do not view Raffy as an acceptable major league third baseman. And agents gonna agent but in the end Raffy is a professional who will play...

Much like Newman, the Sox are not “Ready to deliver”– The 2025 Offseason News (& rumors?) Thread

Between Rosenthal's ridiculous over the top op-ed and this post today about Alonso looking for a 3 year deal I think it's clear that we're now at the point in the offseason where the guys remaining aren't getting what they hoped. https://twitter.com/JimDuquetteGM/status/1877715029790712099...

Crazy that they had .294 OBP Rick Burleson leading off with Fred Lynn hitting sixth with a .380 OBP. People didn't really understand baseball in 1978.

Maybe, but the Red Sox interest in Arenado is sincere one thing it means for sure is that they don't want Devers to be a starting third baseman anymore. Which I think is correct.

By OAA in 2024, it's +15 runs in defense (Devers -6, Arenado +9) against -5 runs on offense (Yoshida +4.6, Arenado -0.4). The difference is worth about 2 wins, which puts it in the ballpark of the $12M salary difference between Arenado and Yoshida.

Arenado doesn't require a Casas trade. It requires a Yoshida trade. Presumably, Yoshida + prospect for Arenado. Arenado at third, Casas at first and Devers primarily as a DH would be a big defensive boost.

The Conductor: who should Breslow haul to Boston this winter?

I think what's happening is that the Red Sox are looking to trade (Abreu or Casas) plus (Hamilton or Grissom or Bleis or Sandlin) to (Seattle or Pittsburgh or Houston or Miami) for (Woo or Miller or Jones or Chandler or Valdez or Luzardo or Alcantara). I think we're just waiting to figure out...

Red Sox hook Crochet for Kyle Teel, Braden Montgomery, Chase Meidroth and Wikelman Gonzalez

He could get $200M guaranteed tomorrow, or he could get his arbitration contract for 2025 and live his life one pitch away from a career ending injury and walk away with nothing more than $2.5M. He's been through TJ surgery once, he knows how quickly this whole thing could disappear. He'll extend.

    Grade the Crochet Trade

10/10. Garrett Crochet last year was the best pitcher in baseball on a per-inning basis and has every potential to be the kind of elite performer that this team has lacked for years. This team is now in prime position to have a pitcher of that level of ability for all of his prime years. Kyle...

Red Sox hook Crochet for Kyle Teel, Braden Montgomery, Chase Meidroth and Wikelman Gonzalez

Fangraphs has Teel at 50 FV. 55 Hit, 45 Power and 50 Field. An average major league regular.

Red Sox hook Crochet for Kyle Teel, Braden Montgomery, Chase Meidroth and Wikelman Gonzalez

I don't think so. I think there's still a trade in the Abreu/Duran/Casas group for a pitcher coming. Imagine this rotation with Luzardo or Woo or Chamberlain or someone of that caliber fitting in with Crochet, Houck and Bello and this becomes one of the best young rotations in MLB.

Red Sox hook Crochet for Kyle Teel, Braden Montgomery, Chase Meidroth and Wikelman Gonzalez

SoxProspects has his hit tool is fringe average and his K rate was over 20% in college. There are tons and tons of plus power prospects who hit a hit tool wall in AA or above. Until a hitter shows that he can keep his strikeouts down to a manageable level against big league quality pitching I...

Red Sox hook Crochet for Kyle Teel, Braden Montgomery, Chase Meidroth and Wikelman Gonzalez

Crochet made $890,000 last year and he's in line for something like $2.5 million in arbitration this year. He'd be crazy to turn down a big money extension right now and risk an injury that prevents him from ever getting a big payday. We have tons of leverage in the extension negotiations that...

Red Sox hook Crochet for Kyle Teel, Braden Montgomery, Chase Meidroth and Wikelman Gonzalez

Corbin Burnes (3.55) is closer in xFIP to Austin Gomber (4.50) than he is to Garrett Crochet (2.38). And Gomber was 4th worst among qualified starters in MLB last year.

Red Sox hook Crochet for Kyle Teel, Braden Montgomery, Chase Meidroth and Wikelman Gonzalez

There isn't nearly enough appreciation here for the massive difference in stuff between Crochet (12.88 K/9, 2.38 xFIP) and Fried (8.57 K/9, 3.33 xFIP) or Burnes (8.38 k/9, 3.55 xFIP). Admittedly Crochet has only done it for 140 innings, but the flip side of that is that 26 is a lot younger than...
