Much like Newman, the Sox are not “Ready to deliver”– The 2025 Offseason News (& rumors?) Thread

You win the simulation. Lotta knee jerk madness right now. The offseason is a thousand piece puzzle, maybe we should wait and see how it all fits together before we pawn off our best starter for spare parts.

Boston’s taxing pursuit of Juan Soto is over. (Mets)

I don’t want any part of Bregman, but as an anal retentive copy editor, I gotta say the more important correction here is the constant butchering of who/whom. Easiest rule of thumb is to only use whom as an object to whom things happen. If you’re following it with a verb, it’s a subject...

September: Red Sox discussion and trend tracking...AKA It's not all about the Benjamins

And the team locking him up with a fair deal for both sides makes it much more likely that he’ll be amenable to such a role. Otherwise it could be seen as detrimental to his arbitration-era financial prospects. Perhaps that’s something that they factored into the deal, makes a lot of sense in...

Thanks for this amazing rec! Well, at least my relationship is strong. (Just kidding. While not at all satisfying, that was wildly exciting to witness live. My first in-person walkoff.)

Bravo sir! I love these so much. Never thought I’d get flattered feelings of ownership from a Hawk Tuah mention in one of them, but life’s funny that way.

Thanks, appreciate any and all area recs. Who else has been to this Juicebox? There was a lot of internal debate about whether to sit close to the field on the third base side (right behind the vistors dugout) or surrender to the spoils of Club seats (first base side, Section 231, Row 1). It’s...

First ever game thread, seemed appropriate. I drove to Houston from New Orleans for my three year anniversary with my girlfriend, who is in no way a baseball fan but loves me enough to structure our weekend around a meaningless game (or so we thought when tix were purchased in June). Back then...

    8/18-Getaway Day

Feels like we’ve seen that exact sequence roughly 2478 times this year: new reliever enters, glove set up outside, hanging sweeper in, detonation.

MLB Draft 2024 - Potential future Red Sox

Law: I'm hearing from a team selecting in the 11-14 range that they are anticipating all of the top-10 picks coming from the college ranks. As far as I'm aware, that's never happened.

April 7. End of the West Coast Trip.

This is the most bewildering thought: these ill-fitting Sox, mocked by disbelievers for more than four months, were a couple of routine defensive plays and a couple of cheap runs away from 10-0. Their Moxie would please Ted.

4.6 - Angels in the Outfield

Sure, if they average 4+ IP all year. But it’s the second time through. Some efficiency and longevity gains can be expected. Can’t argue with the results so far.

    8.2 5 1 1 6 9 ? I’ll take it.

    3/30 - The Road Trip: Game 3

I think the entire point is that Cora knew he was dealing without his closer and did nothing to adjust before the fact: e.g. let your cruising relievers go an extra batter or two. He’s dogmatic to a fault.

    3/30 - The Road Trip: Game 3

Very hard to argue with any of this. How fans can cogently lay out an ideal strategy and it not occur to a Major League manager is baffling to me. Cora almost couldn’t have helped them lose any more.

    3/30 - The Road Trip: Game 3

If you know Jansen isn’t pitching, why not ride Campbell until he gives up a hit? 14 pitches, 9 strikes, no threats. Cora walked the team off a cliff.
