Roki Sasaki to be posted this winter

At least he won’t be in the AL East. Did you guys really want him on the Blue Jays?

Red Sox Acquire C Blake Sabol from SFG for IFA $$ (Chase Shugart DFA'd)

Maybe he will spend some time at 1B and provide depth there too.

Positional Switches - good or bad?

Signing Hanley to play LF was a creative move in an environment of scarcity of RH power-hitting outfielders. He was not that old and was moving well down the defensive spectrum, but it just didn’t work out, perhaps because he didn’t prepare properly (including the nature of his conditioning)...

Alex Bregman and Adding a Bat

Well, I think Breslow et al would be fools, from a public and player-relations perspective, not to say this right now. They may very well think something else internally. That said, I do not favor signing Bregman.

Alex Bregman and Adding a Bat

Signing him to play 3B for the next <5 years might work out, but would be expensive, in terms of his contract, losing a draft pick, and the added cost of subsidizing Yoshida to play elsewhere (or to stay and clog the roster with his lack of versatility; in these days of short benches, I just...

The Conductor: who should Breslow haul to Boston this winter?

You’re right, and giving up a draft pick too. Not worth it at all, perhaps not even at half of what he is supposedly seeking.

Is There Something I Should Know? How good will Jarren Duran be going forward?

Please please tell me now! Anyway, I voted #2, and I think #1 would be a defensible choice. Last year I shared the concern that some of the progress with his hitting was BABIP luck, but he improved his underlying metrics and achieved similar bottom-line results, with less BABIP luck, stretched...

The Conductor: who should Breslow haul to Boston this winter?

I think Bregman would be an expensive mistake. Sandoval redux (different body types acknowledged, but Sandoval was 3 years younger). Perhaps Breslow and Cora are convinced Devers needs to move off 3B, despite their public pronouncements. I would oppose trading Casas for anything less than a...

The Conductor: who should Breslow haul to Boston this winter?

So…start Anthony and Campbell in Boston for a shot at the ROY draft bonus, or keep them in AAA until May (or when someone needs to be replaced because of injury or underperformance) and get an extra year of control (a sure thing, unlike the ROY bonus)? Depending on spring training performance...

I suspect we have to wait to see where Sasaki lands before seeing more movement on the starting pitching front.

Bone chips in his elbow. He had no business being out there for much of the season.

Much like Newman, the Sox are not “Ready to deliver”– The 2025 Offseason News (& rumors?) Thread

Embarrassed to admit that I forgot about the QO attached to Santander. Probably not worth losing a pick and giving the Orioles an extra one. Maybe Goldschmidt for 1 year makes more sense. Gleyber probably wants multiple years and to start at 2B. Ugh, I would like get an explanation from Breslow...

This is also what I envision as Santander's role. Perhaps they would keep Yoshida until they are more sure whether Anthony is ready to take over in LF, with Santander as the insurance policy. If Anthony is indeed ready, trade Yoshida to a team that has a need, perhaps a new need created by a...

Much like Newman, the Sox are not “Ready to deliver”– The 2025 Offseason News (& rumors?) Thread

In his recent interview with Bradford, Cora said Devers would be the first to know if such a switch were in the offing. Neither Cora nor Breslow is going to tell us whether there have been private conversations in the FO to that effect.

The Conductor: who should Breslow haul to Boston this winter?

For those of you (not inappropriately) worried about Walker Buehler’s two TJ surgeries…the much beloved Nathan Eovaldi says hi. Before the Crochet trade I would have advocated Flaherty and Buehler (assuming no Burnes), now we may be looking at one of them.

Much like Newman, the Sox are not “Ready to deliver”– The 2025 Offseason News (& rumors?) Thread

I'm baffled that they did not make a QO to O'Neill, especially with the accurately stated need for RH power in the lineup. If they didn't like his defense and don't feel prepared to jettison/bench/demote Yoshida, then Teoscar and Santander don't make sense either. Santander as a switch-hitting...

Boston’s taxing pursuit of Juan Soto is over. (Mets)

This is where I’m at as well. Fried and more bullpen help would be fine with me.

Eovaldi's results have been quite consistent over the past 3 years, though he will be 35 and his fastball velocity is starting to fade. xERA 53 percentile on Savant this past season. I recall when he was on the Red Sox and his fastball velo was down a bit for whatever reason, the results weren't...

I don't understand the interest in Bregman and Adames, given their age, expected decline, and likely cost, unless the Red Sox really want to move Devers off 3B. I don't think it makes sense to sign either of those guys for 2B; Grissom looked good in September and I would be happy to roll with...
