How do you feel about the Red Sox offer to Soto?

They seem to have put in a good faith effort to get Soto, when one of the owners of the other teams promised to do whatever it took to get him. Looks like Cohen is not a liar. Believe if Boston pivots and spends a whole bunch on pitching and other improvements, we'll have no reason to complain...

    Sox sign Aroldis Chapman

Not really going to add anything to the morale debate about Chapman. He's signed. Irrespective of how I or anyone feels about it, it's done. From a baseball perspective this is clearly a good move. Boston's bullpen was terrible at generating swings and misses, Chapman is exceptional at that...

    RIP Luis Tiant

Luis Tiant is the reason why my family grew up Red Sox fans (I grew up in the DC Metro area) He was Cuban. Dad was Cuban. He left Cuba in 61. Dad escaped in 61. He didn't see his parents again until the late 70s. Dad didn't see his parents until the late 70s. The guy was 83, 8 years older than...

Red Sox acquire RHP Quinn Priester from Pittsburgh; optioned to Worcester

It's worth noting that Davis was kind of seen as the lower ceiling, huge floor guy of that draft. There were questions about whether or not he could play catcher, but pretty much everyone agreed that he'd be a good enough hitter to be a solid regular, even in the OF. That was a really...

Red Sox acquire RHP Quinn Priester from Pittsburgh; optioned to Worcester

Nice, may it be number 1 of many. I will say watching him in MLB games, one of the bigger concerns about his development was whether or not he could keep himself in shape for 2B. He was pretty filled out as a teenager and he's got a sibling who's also a big dude. It seems like he's avoided...

Red Sox acquire RHP Quinn Priester from Pittsburgh; optioned to Worcester

Yorke being expendable probably has a lot more to do with the following factors than Vaughn Grissom: Skepticism over Yorke's ability to play in the infield skepticism over Yorke's bat being good enough to play in LF or 1b, should he have to move The emergence of Kristian Campbell this season as...

    2024 Prospect Rankings Thread

Yeah, Zanetello was always considered a raw but exciting prospect due to his incredible athleticism, but listening to the last several SP podcasts, it seems like people aren't seeing the same athleticism. This could be due to him being inside his own head given how terrible his season has been...

Big 3 are promoted to AAA

He's a plus athlete, but according to the SP profile, he's still learning the OF. This isn't to say he can't be a good defender. He has the raw tools that he could be good... but he's not there yet. I think the fact that he's a 2B, despite super loud physical tools suggests he needs a little...

Big 3 are promoted to AAA

Overall, I think this is defensible, which is nuts, because Teel is a top 50 prospect. A few notes / comments Campbell's placement could be anywhere from 2 to 4 depending on how you value ceiling versus floor. I think Anthony is clearly the 1A (you can argue Mayer is 1B). The big separator...

    Red Sox draft D'Angelo Ortiz

He was pretty good at a good baseball program (Miami Dade) last year. If he weren't David's son he probably wouldn't have been drafted this year, but he certainly is a draft prospect. A whole lot of nepo picks happen every year... the vast majority of them are nowhere near as good of players as...

Bryan Mata & Cam Booser to be called up? ( Justin Slaten to IL w/ right elbow inflammation)

He's completely out of options and has elite arm strength. More than likely he sucks or gets hurt in the Majors, but they have to at least see what they have before letting him go for free. They'd have to DFA him to assign him to the minors (other than rehab, which he's done plenty of this year...

Brayan Bello signed to a 6 year, $55 million extension

Based on one what start in which he sported a 2.62 FIP?

Jayson Tatum's Rise to the Top

I don't know how to break it to you, but Russell didn't play in a 47 year old's life time. I'm only 40, and I'm routinely blown away how old shit that feels contemporary to me, is. Bill Russell's career being one of them.

Brayan Bello signed to a 6 year, $55 million extension

He's continuing to post groundball rates, while seeing his K rate tick up. I think you can rightly point out the BB rate has also increased but that was always going to happen (I never thought he was a 2.5 BB per 9 guy). I think the HR issue is probably both bad execution and bad some bad luck...

Brayan Bello signed to a 6 year, $55 million extension

Bello has a 3.76 xFIP, better than Crawford. If he was rocking a 3.5 ERA right now, no one would be complaining about the extension. Bello has been fine, if a little unlucky. The HR rate is a tick high but overall this has been a step forward for him.

Young, scrappy and hungry: when does Hamilton get his shot?

Again, I think it depends on what you're expecting. If you're expecting a full time SS, then yeah, Hamiliton is not a viable option. If you're expecting a back up who can fill in other positions, he's perfectly fine. The question is whether or not his bat has forced his way into being a...

Young, scrappy and hungry: when does Hamilton get his shot?

Ian on the SP pod stated that Hamilton has clearly improved defensively to the point that he's playable at SS. He doesn't think he should be a regular SS, but he's passable enough for a bench spot. This has been a frustrating season, but Hamilton emerging as a legit bench piece is a nice...

Who to buy at the trade deadline?

Yeah, he's actually gotten good reviews there. Blaze Jordan is a fun little lotto ticket. He has some really cool core skills, is young and seems like a really good guy but most accounts. He deserves a ton of credit for all the work he did this past offseason to get in shape while also dealing...

May: Red Sox discussion, observations and trend tracking...AKA It's not all about the Benjamins

I have no opinion of Lawson as a hitting coach but I think the issue with 2024 is mostly personnel. Breaking down the hitters, it seems they've actually been fortunate with how players have performed: Overperforming expectations: Wong is playing like an All Star. There were reasons to like...

    The Yoshida Conundrum

Like, I think the Miami Heat have had worse luck with injuries this year, but that's about it.
