November 2024 NBA Gamethread: Some of the Turkeys are on the Court

It's absolutely crazy, but they aren't in a position to suffer whatever the opposite of a moral victory is. Even in the vast mediocrity that is the 2024-2025 eastern conference, they need to put some wins on the board if they want to stay out of the play in, they'll take them where they can get...

November 2024 NBA Gamethread: Some of the Turkeys are on the Court

It shouldn't be lost in Giannis' monster game (59/14/7, with 2 blocks, 3 steals and just 3 turnovers in 43 minutes), he was 16-17 from the free throw line (55% on the year heading into tonight)

    11/13 - @ Deez Nets

2 bad possessions for the Celtics usually means two contested off the dribble 3's for tatum, which he hits at about 25%. That means two bad possessions are worth about 1.5 points, quite a bit more than one quality half-court possession (the math is so strongly in favor of two possessions over...

    11/13 - @ Deez Nets

Missing some good looks, plus White is buried in foul trouble and no KP again...sometimes the superstars have to step up and create the offense. I'm ok with it.

    General Celtics thread: 24-25 edition

Last night's loss means that point differential could now be a factor, so that's great.

    LALakers 2024-25 PlayIn Again, Stans!

How typical is this for someone expected to go back and forth between the G League and the NBA repeatedly over the course of the season? Not saying that Bronny should be that guy going back and forth (he absolutely shouldn't be, but whatever), but of the guys that do spend a lot of time for...

General NBA season thread: 24-25 edition

Howard was SUPER corny. Imagine Giannis without the title, his act would wear thin really fast. Years ago on this board I compared Howard to Embiid (Howard's defensive value was similar to Embiid's offensive value and vice versa), and while Embiid has been better offensively than I thought at...

    2024-2025 Sixers: Maxey-ing or Minimizing?

One of the biggest guys in the league, flops like this should be embarrassing. Fuck this guy.

    11/12: Hawks@Celtics

23 more FGAs for Atlanta so far. Some of that is free throws (Celtics are +12 from the line), but good lord that's a lot to overcome.

NY Knicks 2024-25: OG and the Wild-KATs

When you can't defend in space and you can't protect the rim, you're a bad defender. It feels telling that the Knicks are currently 6.5 points per 100 better with him on the bench, despite how incredible he's been offensively and the Knicks' complete lack of quality backups at center.

Jaylen Brown 2024-25, Year 9: What they gonna say now?!

Certainly playing like it. It might just be me, it seems like he's spending more time than usual grimacing in between plays.

And their overall percentage (.362, 11th best) isn't even all that great, although this is pretty much all Hauser (.292) and Brown (.260) having cold (possibly injured) starts to the season.

November 2024 NBA Gamethread: Some of the Turkeys are on the Court

Yeah that's a crazy efficient game, if figures out the 3 point shot (shooting just over 26% entering tonight) he'll be basically unstoppable in the half court. Also a little crazy that 45 points is a career high for him - he's averaged 30+ ppg over his last 150 games, hard to believe he's never...

Jayson Tatum's Rise to the Top

Yeah MVP was always a long shot for him, I'll be happy with another 1st team all-NBA. Here are the early contenders for 1st team as I see it: Tatum Luka SGA Jokic Giannis Davis Durant Edwards Mitchell and Curry can push their way in if their teams keep up their current pace, though their...

Jayson Tatum's Rise to the Top

I'll give Luka the benefit of the doubt here and assume he's not going to continue playing like prime Russell Westbrook, minus the athleticism. His TS% is currently .533, the lowest of his career (and miles below his last two years when he finished at .609 and .617), plus he might still be...

Jayson Tatum's Rise to the Top

I've seen this floating around, but it's flat out untrue. Jokic is leading the Nuggets in everything - points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, and doing so at largely far greater margins than Tatum (65% more points than the next Nugget, 95% more rebounds, more than twice as many assists)...

    The Bill Simmons Thread

I'd call that relevant from a week to week perspective, but nothing at all once the season is over. If you don't make the final four, there's little reason for anyone other than fans of the team to remember what you did. From a historical standpoint, I think it's perfectly fair to say that the...

Jaylen Brown 2024-25, Year 9: What they gonna say now?!

In addition to the physical toll, it's a mindfuck every possession. Check out when Dame gets the ball here: View: https://twitter.com/_JasonLT/status/1856020716832817289 There's no one open, he's guarded by Al Horford, and there are 6 seconds on the shot clock. How does he not go go work...

Hauser 3 point shooting by year, going back to college: 2017: .453 2018: .487 2019: .402 2020: (sat out due to transfer rules) 2021: .417 2022: .420 2023: .418 2024: .424 Injuries suck and can't be helped (and back injuries are never great) but there is no on the Celtics I worry about...
