Alex Verdugo, new Red Sox star!

Do we know how severe the beating was? Does that matter with regard to criminal charges? The police saw the video and know who shot it, right? Edit: IIRC, the news reports say the police report noted a bruised eye and facial swelling.

Alex Verdugo, new Red Sox star!

I assume Henry and Bloom have a lot more information about Verdugo's involvement in the 2015 incident, and his subsequent behavior, than we do. It's impossible for me to judge their decision-making without knowing what they know. Do any of us actually know what Verdugo did or didn't do? Even if...

Alex Verdugo, new Red Sox star!

The spring training assault happened four or five years ago. Hopefully, he's matured a bit since then.

Alex Verdugo, new Red Sox star!

I'd think the person witnessing the assault has to know the person being assaulted is a minor. If this is a case of a 20-year-old punching a 17-year-old, that might not be the case. In what way? Do we know who "him" is in this? Baldwin or Verdugo? I assume it's Verdugo because the victim...

Alex Verdugo, new Red Sox star!

Does it matter how old the two women who beat the 17-year-old were? Does it matter whether the player who filmed the beating knew how old they all were? Does it matter how severe the beating was?

Alex Verdugo, new Red Sox star!

Has anyone named Verdugo is the player who videoed the fight? How severe was the fight? Not defending Verdugo (and don’t want him in the team,) but what exactly were his actions?

    Betts/Price to LA for Verdugo/Jeter Downs/TBA

Hope the Twins pull-out kills the deal. I’d rather keep Betts for a year and overpay Price rather than have Verdugo plus anyone the Dodgers might add. Screw the luxury tax. They’re the 3rd-richest team in baseball. Suck it up, play Mookie in 2020 and resign him as a free agent for whatever...

Alex Verdugo, new Red Sox star!

Has anyone read the police report referenced in the Quiroli and Sports Illustrated articles?

    Betts/Price to LA for Verdugo/Jeter Downs/TBA

At least one prospect. Trading Betts+Price for Myers alone makes no sense. Price and Myers are roughly equal in (negative) value, so the Sox would be giving Mookie away for free. The Padres would have to include a top prospect like Luis Patino or Campusano plus one or two others.

    Betts/Price to LA for Verdugo/Jeter Downs/TBA

Since Betts’s positive value and Price’s negative value are roughly the same, why not trade them together for nothing in return? Especially if the main point is to clear payroll?

    Betts/Price to LA for Verdugo/Jeter Downs/TBA

Right. Has either team officially announced the trade yet?

    Betts/Price to LA for Verdugo/Jeter Downs/TBA

Anyone else miss the days when you didn’t need to be an doctor or an MBA to evaluate baseball trades?

    Betts/Price to LA for Verdugo/Jeter Downs/TBA

True, but fan sentiment has very little to do with how this sorts out.

MLB’s sign-stealing controversy broadens: Sources say the Red Sox used video replay room illegally in 2018

If Cora was still the Astros bench coach and hadn't gone on to manage the 2018 Red Sox, do you think would MLB suspend him for a year, same as Hinch and Luhnow? I assume other coaches and team personnel were involved in the Astros sign-stealing schemes. It's interesting that the only coach...

MLB’s sign-stealing controversy broadens: Sources say the Red Sox used video replay room illegally in 2018

It's ironic that the entity that introduced the key technology -- replay room video monitors -- is the league. With regard to slowing down the game, video replay reviews seemingly take forever. It'd be faster if managers had to make challenge decisions based on what they actually see instead...

Cora in line for major suspension?

Yes, the mere existence of the replay video room is the root of the problem. It’s unreasonable to have a live video feed available to players and expect them not to use it to steal signs and then share them with other players. That said, transmitting info obtained in the video room by text...

Cora in line for major suspension?

Is it reasonable to hope that because the Red Sox got their hands slapped in 2017 for the AppleWatch thing that the team didn’t engage in illegal sign-stealing using the video room in 2018 when Cora became manager? I know The Athletic ran a story saying some individual players stole signs when...

MLB’s sign-stealing controversy broadens: Sources say the Red Sox used video replay room illegally in 2018

The league has already been “tipped” by Astros players that at least eight other teams use the video room for sign stealing. That will probably have no effect on any (ex-Cora) Red Sox penalties because the team will be a second offender. The difference between using video rooms to steal signs...

Cora in line for major suspension?

This is why I’m not certain that the players and Cora understood that what they were doing was cheating, as opposed to everybody-does-it sign-stealing gamesmanship. I explained this in the other thread, but basically, the league’s 2017 warning focused on banning the use of electronic devices to...
