    Red Sox draft D'Angelo Ortiz

Greater than zero percent chance that D'Angelo Ortiz was named by his dad after a local sub shop. This nepotism will probably work out about as well as the time the Dodgers drafted the kid of Tommy Lasorda's buddy as a favor to him.

    Remembering The Gold Dust Twins

Speaking of Dwight Evans, he has a book out now: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5641296/2024/07/19/dwight-evans-hall-of-fame-sliders/ Just a brutal story of what his family had to seal with, one that I never heard about:

    July 19 @ LA Dodgers

MLB shows Pivetta starting Friday, followed by Crawford on Saturday and Bello on Sunday. https://www.mlb.com/probable-pitchers/2024-07-19 Looks like the Dodgers are throwing that TBD guy all 3 games, he must have stamina.

    Following Former Red Sox 2024...

Cool story about Adrian Beltre and his fun quirks: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5630345/2024/07/15/adrian-beltre-hall-of-fame-oral-history/ Do not touch his head! No one can touch his head! Though if you are a barber, you can touch his head. It's different. Moving the on-deck circle...

    7/14/2024 - KCamp > Math

Whatever Rochester did to Meidroth, I don't like it. He was 1 for 20 against them in this series, yuck.

    July 14 - Royals @ Red Sox

From the Athletic, to add on the LH/RH starter numbers: Against left-handed starters, the Red Sox are 12-15 overall, 1-8 since June 10. The team is hitting .245 (12th in the majors) with a .712 OPS (16th) against lefties compared to .255 (seventh in MLB) with a .756 OPS (fourth) against...

    July 13 - Royals @ Red Sox

That ball 4 called strike 2 ruined that entire inning. Just awful. I'm sure later in the game in completely meaningless situation, the boiled-ass ump will call one our way.

Who to buy at the trade deadline?

Zach Eflin seems like a guy who is likely to be traded. He makes $11 million this year but that bumps up to $18 million next year, and I can't see Tampa being willing to pay that. I think they signed him with the full intention of trading him for young cheap players before his contract ends. The...

    Game 92: 7/11-A's at Sox

Radio had a postgame interview with Chase Anderson. He seems like a great guy who is funny and grateful to be part of this team. They pointed out he has won the Good Guy award with 2 different other teams and he seems to be a popular figure and a leader in the bullpen. So I'm rooting for him to...

Schumann with a classical lucky break there. Also, Youk seems to be talking much more than usual tonight. Less is more, Youks.

Weissert pitched the 3rd, 4th, 6th, and now 9th of July. LOL what the hell are you digging in so hard on this for? He struck out 11 in 5 innings, 2 runs allowed, with none after the bad first inning. At that point it was a good start. Not an amazing, heroic, perfect start, but a good one.

5 IP, 2 runs and 11 Ks is a good start against any team.

Weird night for Bello. Terrible start to really good start to sort of bad start. Going with Everyday Weissert now here.

MLB Draft 2024 - Potential future Red Sox

From the same link, Seaver King (great name!) sounds like exactly the type of player the current Red Sox management would like: Really versatile, plays all over the field, can run, good bat speed-- sounds like a lot of recent Sox prospects. But he could end up being a sort of combo of Ceddanne...
