Surely he should have been third, with David Hamilton also ahead of him.

Tim Wakefield has passed away from brain cancer at 57 (10/1 update)

That's a really good point about 49 being a special number for knuckleballers. Maybe there's a different, special way to memorialize him? Just throwing this out there: display a pair of his pitching cleats in a clear case mounted in the bullpen with a sign that can be seen from the stands...

Tim Wakefield has passed away from brain cancer at 57 (10/1 update)

Bill Janovitz from Buffalo Tom wrote this fun song "The Ballad of Timmy Wakefield" back in 2009. It's very fitting today of course: View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZf9UeZa4uA "There are plenty of people who will be crying when they hang up the spikes of Timmy Wakefield." "True Red Sox...

10/1 A Full Circle Mea Culpa or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Embrace the Offseason

I guess I think it's awful to walk only 7 times in his last 61 games, 242 PAs.

It sounds like they are pronouncing it 8Chan, which is even worse.

Celtics Trade Timelord, Brogdon, and picks for Jrue Holiday

Just saw this on a different (completely unrelated to the Celtics or the NBA) message board:

10/1 A Full Circle Mea Culpa or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Embrace the Offseason

Yoshida's last walk was September 12. When will his next one be? Today, in October? March? April? May?

What does Red Sox starting pitching look like in 2024?

Welp, at least he didn't say it would be Kluber. So that's actually an improvement, sort of.

    2024 Core

In the Glob article about Cora saying he is coming back next year, he also talked about our left-handed hitters not going to left enough. He publicly named a few players, and of course Verdugo was one of them: Since it looks like Cora will be back, I really doubt Verdugo will be. Cora has...

Summer 2023 NHL News (Offseason?) Thread

Oh no, that's awful. This article by his wife from 2021 is even more heartbreaking now: https://www.bostonglobe.com/2021/09/27/sports/chris-kelsie-snow-als-fenway-park/ What a sad, sad story.

    September MLB Thread

I had no idea, but apparently there has been bad feelings between Neris and Rodriguez since the middle of last year. From Craig Calcaterra's Cup Of Coffee substack: The McCormick incident and drilling surely only added to the bad blood between the teams too.

Tim Wakefield has passed away from brain cancer at 57 (10/1 update)

This starts in the top of the 13th, right before Sheffield reaches on the strikeout/passed ball: View: https://youtu.be/AbokSfoNZyQ?si=JJHq08HtQsHK9NhU&t=14501 That inning was insane. Wakefield was magnificent, with so much pressure on him. One more passed ball and he could have been the...

    Tito Francona Appreciation Thread

Just one reason why he will always be a Red Sox legend and hero: With everything on the line, before video replay, at the height of Yankee propaganda BS, he got umpires to overturn TWO huge calls in the playoffs at Yankee Stadium, with the crowd going crazy. It's still shocking that it even...

Maybe we can trade for Suzuki at a discount now after that horrible gaffe.

    September MLB Thread

Good lord Suzuki just whiffed a routine fly ball to quite possibly wreck the Cubs season. 2 on 2 out, 1 run lead for the Cubs in the 8th. Routine fly to RF should be inning over with the Cubs winning. But Suzuki just misses it and 2 runs come in and Braves are up 1 now in the 8th.

    9/26 Cook the Rays

I think all the Rays injuries came from the players fighting over who gets to be in the lineup when they play the Red Sox.

Wee Wikelman looks a bit like Bartolo Colon in that first pic. (Big Sexy Colon was listed at 5'11.)

    Joey Votto: Hall of Famer?

Careful, if more sportswriters find out about this, they will dock him for it. "Too selfish to EVER give himself up to help his team win, no wonder he never won anything!"

    Minor league thread 2023

That's what I thought too but the Glob has an article about it that makes it seem intentional? https://www.bostonglobe.com/2023/09/25/sports/red-sox-minor-league-awards/ That seems inaccurate. I am hoping that this Glob writer just took the press release as-is and made up some justification...
