W.S. Hangover Cures: The Devil is in the Details...

This is a shitshow. The team was not prepared to answer the bell. But I’m not worried, AdriansDome assured us that another 108 win season was virtually guaranteed.

    2019 MLB regular season news.

Depends on what you want to do with your post- baseball life, I guess. If all you want to do is lay on a beach, be a talking head, or coach/manage/front office, then maybe it’s not that important. But, $~50 million is a lot of money to invest in a business (Schilling, Jeter, Jordan, Magic) or...

Rosenthal: Sale extension 5 years, $145 million

You see, there are just so many high quality posts on the main board, that all these silly posts that just, you know, discuss something, really get in the way. I mean, really, if we have more than the maybe one or two doctoral dissertations each day, then it will really degrade the site and...

MLB wants to purchase regional sports networks

That would be classic US antitrust law. DOJ: “We are concerned your purchase creates too much monopoly power.” Disney: “Ok, we’ll sell some stations to this other monopoly that provides half their content.” DOJ: “Cool! Approved!” Sigh.

    2019 MLB regular season news.

$35 million is about $19 million after taxes. If he spends $500k a year for 6 years that’s $3 million gone. So if he’s reasonably smart with his money and invests in tax free muni bonds, he can keep getting about $500k a year to spend from those investments. That is definitely “set for life”...

Rosenthal: Sale extension 5 years, $145 million

They are holding Sale back because he needs an extra day of rest. No matter what happy talk they put out there about it, there is no other rational interpretation than to conclude that they appear to have given a $145 million extension to a pitcher with an injured shoulder.

Rosenthal: Sale extension 5 years, $145 million

Ugh. Sorry. I either misheard MLB Radio talking heads this morning or they got it wrong. But they talked about it for several minutes, and I could swear they said labrum. Nonetheless, 2nd degree LAT strain (=partial tear) not labrum.

Rosenthal: Sale extension 5 years, $145 million

That is certainly a plausible narrative. Did folks see that after having had a poor 2nd half of 2018, presumably having a physical when he signed his big extension this offseason, then having been shut down this spring with shoulder soreness, it’s now been revealed that Luis Severino has a...

And they ask why MLB attendance has been decreasing

I was thinking longer term. Last season was the 3rd time in their ~25 year history Miami blew it up. Pittsburgh roughly similar over that time span, despite being well supported when they win.

W.S. Hangover Cures: The Devil is in the Details...

Blaming the west coast trip for a systematic failure of starting pitchers to answer the bell on the regular season is bush league whining. I wouldn’t even let my daughter’s travel team use that excuse if they showed up this flat to a major out of state tournament, let alone major leaguers...

And they ask why MLB attendance has been decreasing

The movies are even more obscene about concessions. As I said, local theatre here the “special” is a coke and a popcorn for $14.50. And it’s $16.95 for the movie — almost all of which are now sequels, remakes, comic book knockoffs, or a left-wing political screed du jour. At least at a...

    Starting Pitching 2019

Perhaps next season they shouldn’t treat spring training as optional for starting pitchers. Maybe.

And they ask why MLB attendance has been decreasing

The A’s won 97 games last year and just made the Red Sox look like a little league team. Pittsburgh and Miami are repeat tankers. They don’t deserve fan support at any price. I do think that the affordability of big screen TVs and Dolby surround sound in the home is a threat to entertainment...

And every ticket at Fenway would be purchased by scalpers as soon as sales opened, with them getting the windfall profits of reselling instead of the players and owners.
