    2023 Starting Rotation

I like him. His signature issue is gun control, which became a high priority for him after Sandy Hook.

Robo strikezone: Not as simple as you think -- Baseball Prospectus

At the risk of being the old man yelling at clouds, I agree. I hate challenges and replays. I have never been real big on watching football, but the challenges, reviews, and wasted time have made it unwatchable for me. On the other hand, I love watching baseball and don't want to see it...

    Let's Talk About MLBTV

Looking for some help. Reactivating Fubo is going to cost me almost $100/month for the season. Streaming NESN appears to be $30. My son has been able to sign into our Fubo account in Oregon (we're in Connecticut), so long as we're not both using it at the same time. Does anybody know if he...

NCAA Basketball Final Four Game Thread

Route 8 from Waterbury to Winsted always flows nicely, assuming there's something in Winsted that interests you or you live in Winsted and need to get to Waterbury. And while I don't share the overall doom and gloom about traveling the state, I do agree that it is very annoying at times, given...

    Play-in game thread

I have a question about the play-in games. What's the history of having two games for 16 seeds and two for 11 seeds? The two 11 seeds that get bounced in the play-in games would probably rather have been picked as 12 seeds or lower. Just seems kind of unfair for two teams to be going home...

2023 NCAA Tournament Thread—Road to Houston

If they play like they did in the second half against Providence they're subject to get bounced really early! They looked good against Marquette but Jackson got into foul trouble and Hawkins and Newton got overwhelmed by Marquette's D. Still a great game though. When they've got it going...

    UConn back to Big East?

Last night was beyond painful to watch. I am far from a basketball genius, but I don't understand a plan that seems to consist of Sanogo trying to fight through a triple team while the best shooter on the floor (Hawkins) stands around and watches.

    (t)PSRT - (temporary) Post-Season Rooting Transference

Don't forget the bat throw while he was in Baltimore. I have no idea whether he is a good person or bad. I feel very confident in saying that he has made some bad behavioral choices while engaged in playing baseball...

Who plays right field for the Sox in 2023?

He got an offer of 2/30 two months ago.

Who plays right field for the Sox in 2023?

He sounded intriguing until I found the news about him turning down 2/30 with the Astros in August. That, on top of him turning down the 18.4 QO from the Mets, makes me think that he won't be interested in any team that thinks it might be able to get him on a "flyer".

Triston Casas promoted, Bobby Dalbec demoted

Agree as to both, although I watched a bit of the game last night and it appears to me that Bello is going to have to work on speeding things up next year with the pitch clock in place. He was REALLY slow to the plate with runners on base.

    Judge for Ourselves

Tongue was firmly in cheek when I wrote that. Thought that might have been obvious. Guess not.

    Judge for Ourselves

That's very true, but I tend to come at this purely as a fan, without much consideration of the risk the ownership group takes in ending up with a winning bid for one of the best players in the game and, except for his current uniform, a seemingly likeable young man. As a fan, I don't really...

    August MLB Game Thread

Absolutely great. Anything MLB or individual teams can do to make games more fun to watch/attend ought to be at or near the top of the to-do list. Take some lessons from MILB. Of course with the Sox, finding a first baseman who can hit and field might be a higher priority!

    Minor league thread 2022

100% agree. Dunkin Donuts is a great place to watch a game.

    Minor league thread 2022

Saw most of the game in Hartford tonight. Rafaela was very impressive. Matt Barnes was not. One inning, one hit, one walk, one earned run. I wasn't keeping a close eye on the velocity, but did see at least one 97. His command was not very good at all. He did, however, get the win!

    2021-2022 Yankees Offseason Discussion

Would he be calling more games if he had worn a higher number while with the Yankees? There may be a logical connection between the two numbers, but I'm surely not seeing it. Who thinks up this stuff?

Alex Cora-- what do we have here? Perhaps the best manager in baseball.

Could it be that the only important regular season win for Cora is the one that gets them into the playoffs? It is well documented that his entire game strategy changes once the post season starts. And between 2018 and this year, that strategy has worked pretty well. So while we, as fans...

Who's On First? - The Wild Card Roster

Forgive me if I'm sidetracking the thread, but I was looking for an opening to wish all the best to Mr. Perez. He comes across as a wonderful son and very nice person in his NESN spots for Latin American Heritage Month. Hopefully he'll be able to contribute as the post-season progresses. Go Sox!

    Mookie redux

We were fortunate to experience the golden era of sox fandom and the Sox - Yankees rivalry and hopefully it comes back strong again someday, but to me, it’s just not quite the same anymore. I agree. The rivalry, at least in the hinterlands, has not been the same since 2004. I've worked in the...
