Your top "forgot he was a Red Sox"

I was at The Brandon Phillips Game in Atlanta - and while Phillips wasn’t a direct post-season contributor, that particular game is the kind of game that gives a team the swagger and confidence it takes to go into the playoffs expecting to win…so he deserves some credit for that.

2023 A's: Worst MLB Team Ever?

All they need is a chimp in right field, a teenage manager and Kevin Costner on the roster and they’re a lock to win the pennant…

    2023 World Baseball Classic

Every sports game ever played with a spectator present is ultimately an “exhibition”. To criticize the WBC as meaningless is to see the sport through the narrow lens of one’s own interests. Injuries, freak or “normal” are a part of sport, and to have sport at all, we need to understand and...

    2023 World Baseball Classic

I like how I could switch from the end of the night game in Phoenix, right to the middle of the morning game in Tokyo…24 Hours a day of baseball. And it sounds like GBR is using Bahamas in the same way the Kingdom of the Netherlands uses their Caribbean territories when it comes to baseball.

    March NHL News Thread

A state of the art arena at The Battery/Truist Park would be a very successful NHL venue. Cobb County would support hockey in a way downtown Atlanta did not… Milwaukee is probably just not quite a big enough market. Salt Lake would need to show some worthiness by filling their somewhat smaller...

    Jordan is good (at skating)

I haven’t actually seen the 1500m yet, but know what you’re talking about. I never liked the two-arms up approach to the 1500m, but you do see it. I feel like you aren’t as able to use your arm swing to control tempo, and especially on the last lap, that’s a big deal. And the 1500m is...

    Jordan is good (at skating)

A bit of stalking tells me you may be at St Cloud State. You may not know Jordan Stolz, but you may know the Chief Referee for that race… And Grant Cruikshank at last glance was having a decent season for the hockey team.

    Jordan is good (at skating)

His top end speed is incredible. And unlike most he actually prefers the tighter last inner turn in the 500m - it’s nice to have something to chase down the backstretch… That appears to be strategic. Basically in the 1500m you can sprint at the beginning or you can sprint at the end, but you...

    Jordan is good (at skating)

Here’s the 500m they’re talking about… Weird camera angles don’t really do the race justice. And a 9.3 over 100m is also pretty unreal!

Here’s a little more from NYT after today’s race. Vanquishing the Dutch, Jordan Stolz Creates a New Norse Myth I haven’t seen video of the race yet, but I know he’s got as good turns as I’ve ever seen…so I am not surprised to hear any of this.

    Jordan is good (at skating)

If your’re looking for a “I was into this guy before he was big” story leading up to the 2026 Olympic Winter Games, it’s time to start paying attention to Jordan Stolz. Jordan Stolz - American Phenom The 18 year-old became the youngest skater to win a World Cup race earlier this season, and...

    2/28 @Flames

I was one butt-cheek out of my seat to leave at the end of OT, what with a plane to catch and all. But what a game… And for all those here who said the Bruins looked tired, I agree, they did - but also, they just looked BETTER. There was a mix of swagger and skill that Calgary just didn’t have.

I had a great time over there one night playing blackjack with Noah Hanafin’s dad and his buddy after one season opener. The buddy opened his mouth, and I was like, “Where in Mass are you from?” Also - cheap rib dinner and $6 (CDN) beers up until 30 min before games is good.

I’m pretty sure tonight’s game is 7 PM in Calgary…and tonight I’m rooting for the spoked B. I plan to be entertained. Calgary fans are frustrated. This was supposed to be a legit contending team, but a few high profile guys haven’t been producing - Markstrom in particular. Moving forward, I...

Should have been named the Pheonix in homage to how the city rose from its ashes. And because that wouldn’t be confusing or anything… In other news, I will be attending the game tonight, and have an extra ticket - so any Alberta SoSH people who live near enough to attend (well ONE) is invited…

    1/2 - Pens/Bruins at Fenway

I think they’re doing more now than they did in 2008, but not enough more. All the post-game stuff they’re doing now should be pre-game…and if the turnaround time is tight, book more sessions a day. Honestly, I think they want the logos to stand out - and lots of use makes the ice get cloudy...
