9/21 @ TB: Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night

Blew another save? That is a bit of an understatement. He gave up the game-tying home run on his first pitch and the game-losing home run on his second pitch.

    The DD Replacement. Who's Next?

The Globe reports "La Russa to take on new role." First thing that came to mind was, "Water boy. Where are you hiding?," but the Globe says he is expected to work on staff development.

268 Or Bust: Taking Aim At The Team HR Record Again

I predicted before the season began that the Yankees would hit 300 home runs then they had all those injuries. But they are still getting there.

Down on the Farm, 2019 edition

Rusney Castillo has told Sports Illustrated that he won't opt out of his $13.5M contract with the Red Sox (surprise, surprise). He lives in an apartment in Boston, convinced that he will return to the Red Sox and the majors, meanwhile he commuted to Rhode Island for home games.

    9/18 Giants @ Red Sox

May 1, 1920, the Brooklyn Robins met the Boston Braves for an afternoon game that was called when the sun went down after the 26th inning...a 1-1 tie in which both starters went the whole way and the time of the game was 3 hours 50 minutes. Somebody knew how to speed up pace of play.

    9/18 Giants @ Red Sox

    Xander's Season

I thought it was quite obvious. He missed his chance to be the only player to have achieved 30/50 with fewer than 100 RBI. To paraphrase a line from an old song, "It was overestimation, I know..."

    Xander's Season

Today on the WEEI website there is an article by Scott McLaughlin--"Who's Swinging the Lumber/ Xander Bogaerts joins the exclusive 30-home run, 50-double, 100-RBI club." Well, yes, it is exclusive, having only been done 24 times by 20 different players (Pujols x3, Chuck Klein and Todd Helton...

Some changes in NESN Red Sox broadcasting

A Google News search turned this up from the Globe, 3/29/19: In Boston, Chad Finn reports Guerin Austin's future as NESN's Red Sox sideline reporter "appears to be uncertain." Sources said that Austin is "not on the schedule for a couple of months following the first few weeks of the season, and...

    Mookie BBetts - 2019 Campaign

That was an interesting article that goes along with my feelings. One thing I did find a little had to understand, though, was Baumann suggesting an NBA-style trade of of getting another team to take on a dead contract [Pedroia] along with a prospect or international slot money after he said the...

    Slow games

Then why did you ask this question, "Do you know how much time Replay reviews add on average to the average game? But as you also remarked, "I don't have to read the papers to know the answer." So don't read them.

    Slow games

To add some framework to all this, assume ---300 pitches per game ---full nine inning games, which means 17 commercials breaks ---commercial break length = 2.75 minutes, which would mean 46.75 minutes per game Then, if there were: ---10 seconds per pitch, that would add 50 minutes to the game...

    Slow games

Yeah. I did say that I wasn't addressing your point about instant replay. Perhaps I should have just made a separate comment. What I don't like about challenges is the expectation that umpires should be perfect while imperfection in players is taken for granted. An umpire may be in the proper...

    Slow games

While this doesn't address your point about instant replay, what annoys me about it is the showing of replays from earlier innings, past games.
