    Celtics Plan, Summer 2021

The Kanter signing is the final confirmation, if that were needed, that next season is a bridge year. Sure, Kanter is a defensive black hole that brings some offense and rebounding, replacing a bit of that which has been lost, but by most accounts his greatest value is his personality and...

    Red Sox acquire Kyle Schwarber

The hamstring muscles flex the leg at the knee and extend the thigh at the hip. Therefore full lower limb anterior movement is most stressful to those muscles since both antagonistic actions (leg extension and thigh flexion) are being performed simultaneously. It's the reason why it is...

It is quite possible, but we are not privy to the inside details nor can we know the future outcomes of deals made and not made. So it inevitably comes down to opinions, and your take is more than reasonable. I also think it is important to remember that we don't know what constraints...

Hi, I'm Kyle Schwarber and I hit bombs!

Absolutely--and I think Chaim's philosophy is to strike a flexible balance between the near- and long-term. If acquisition costs had not been so extreme, I think we would have seen more substantial deadline activity.

Particularly Pivetta, overall, has been more than adequate. Sale, Eovaldi, Houck and Pivetta (always assuming health) is not spectacular, but solid. If Rodriguez can turn it around, it becomes very good. Richards is really the one that needs to go ASAP.

    Red Sox acquire Kyle Schwarber

Ha--let's hope it doesn't go down that road.... radsox posts more in the Port Cellar, but he is always a great source of information about these topics.

Judging by his press conference, it's pretty clear that he has hoping for that as well. It just didn't play out that way.

    Red Sox acquire Kyle Schwarber

Yes, I think Schwarber was not just acquired to fill a short-term need, but also with possible longer-term planning in mind. Schwarber may well be on an upward trajectory, and because of the injury was obtained for very little cost. That is a shrewd way to operate, and it seems to be the...

Acknowledged. I didn't see 1B as a major need for them, but it doesn't hurt and keeps Rizzo from Boston. Win-win, I suppose.

    Red Sox acquire Kyle Schwarber

Kyle Schwarber has a right hamstring injury. For a right-handed first baseman, isn't the left leg (the one extending toward the ball) the one where the hamstring muscles of the posterior thigh are under more stress? If I have that right and not backwards, does that perhaps mean his injury can...

I think the entire trade deadline that just concluded has to be viewed through the prism of the exorbitant prices and the seller's market that emerged. Bloom did not have anywhere near the assets to compete in that feeding frenzy. Even the fungible mid-level reliever or starter would likely...

    Trade deadline

I think this is the right perspective. We should enjoy the rest of this season--whatever it brings--while being realistic about our chances. No reason to jump off the Tobin if the Rays or even Yankees overtake us. We've done a lot better than almost anyone expected, and the future is-as you...

It's also quite likely that ownership had a say in this, as the Sox are still under the luxury tax. I think yesterday's rumors about the ownership being gung-ho on exceeding the tax to acquire Schwerzer were somewhat off the mark.

If nothing else, this means that Franchy has an opportunity (and Dalbec still does as well, I suppose...). Hopefully one of them takes it.

Yup-- I noted that my post did not hold up for more than two minutes.....Well, glad for the Giants, since I really don't want to see the Dodger leviathan crush everyone before them this fall.

    Trade deadline

Two of the best teams in baseball (by record), the Giants and Red Sox, have thus far done nothing or very little. No guarantees, but winning the offseason or trade deadline--as judged by the media--does not always translate to winning where it matters. edit--that post did not age well....

    Trade deadline

Given that Scherzer is a big get, even for a rental, and if indeed Erod might be gone soon (and he has been somewhat erratic this season), would the Nationals be interested in Rodriguez for Scherzer as the basic framework of a deal? Of course, this assumes that the Sox are indeed in GFIN mode...
