    2020 NFL: Ongoing COVID-19 Impact

They've grown up being told they're exceptional, physically and mentally. They've spent countless hours honing those gifts to perfection. They're getting paid millions to BE exceptional. They are hometown heroes, literally the greatest athletes in the history of their towns or schools. Beyond...

    Thank you Danny Ainge

100%. Watching helplessly as 'Sheed, Big Baby and KG got repeatedly run over by Gasol and Kobe, allowing the latter to shoot 25% and still score 23 points thanks to 15 FTs (11 made)...it hurt a lot. By no means was this Danny's fault, but it was what it was.

    Thank you Danny Ainge

The dirt-dog as a player became a dirt-dog as a GM - always seeking, always tweaking. Despite the hemming and hawing in recent years about not making one more big trade, it's impossible to get em all done, especially after fleeces like: June 26, 2003: Selected Troy Bell (1st round, 16th pick)...

Brad Stevens: President of Basketball Ops

It's easier with 20/20, but after messing up 1999, he was in deep crap. With Miller in the fold and no Vitaly, I would've expected a little bit better performance in 1999, so mid-teens, drafting a guy like Turkoglu would've been less risky, and likely worked out in the long run. I will admit...

Brad Stevens: President of Basketball Ops

Nice summary of Pitino's moves as a GM: https://www.basketball-reference.com/executives/pitinri99x.html#:~:text=Boston%20Celtics%20Franchise%20(May%206,Bowen%20as%20a%20free%20agent. Let's focus on just the 1st round picks, as the 2nds are all inconsequential: June 25, 1997: Selected Chauncey...

How Good Do You Think Mac Will Eventually Be?

Is it? Carr's been to 3 PBs in 8 seasons; Cutler 1 in 11. Carr's a 64% career passer, with 67% or better his last 3 years. Cutler was a 62% career passer, with only one season at 66%. Carr's record is terrible, but it'd be pretty much impossible to put that on his shoulders. The Raider D has...

How Good Do You Think Mac Will Eventually Be?

Injuries aside, I think Mac's ceiling is Derek Carr, and floor is Jay Cutler. We could be bitching about his lackadaisical approach, or wooed by his accuracy.

    The Night Before Draftmas Poll

Ditto. If only Jones is available of the Big 5, they'll sit back and wait to 15. Bill's in GFIFN mode after TB+TB's win, and with a refreshed roster, QB of the future is the only major concern. Of course, then he'll draft a safety at 15 and make me look like a fool.

Sexual Assault Lawsuit Filed against QB DeShaun Watson

We still discuss (perhaps with levity) Brett Favre's dongpic sent over a decade ago. These are far, far more serious indiscretions, and so many more incidents. I can't see less than a full season suspension, followed by the payouts and press conference as you suggested. Like Mike Vick, he'll be...

    How to find V&N?

I've been lurking for over a decade. Happy to pay for a subscription, but until I decided to search around, I was unaware of the vouch system. Any suggestions on making inroads?

Pats Retain Exclusive-Rights to FB Jakob Johnson

He'll be in camp, cheap as well, but we really have no idea what we have with him. If he sucks in preseason*, he's too far down the TE and FB depth chart to stick. * will there be a preseason this year?

Which is Your Favorite Pats Signing So Far?

TE seems to be the 2nd most important skill position in football. A single quality TE stirs the drink, forcing LBs or safeties into flat or seam coverage, or adding one more on the edge to block on myriad running plays from backs, QBs or wideouts on sweeps. TE overmatched as a blocker or...

How Many Top-Market FAs Will NE Sign?

I voted 1, either TE (unless Pitts drops to them) or WR. I'm hoping Malcom Brown returns, Adam Butler re-signs, and they add more linemen in the 3rd and 4th rounds.

He also caught a touchdown against the Eagles, which is one of those dirt-dog "holy crap this kicker isn't just a nerd with a leg!" moments that teams rally behind. View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-DL7kEDeM4

The Nation's Tears Are Still Here

Feel free to share here :) She's an incredible athlete, but doesn't have the psychology or mic work down yet. She'll get there though, given time.

NFL: Stafford to Rams for Two 1st Rd. Picks, One 3rd Rd. Pick, and QB Goff

Absolutely. Stafford wanted out, so that should have canceled much of DET's leverage. I guess we'll get to see just how much of Goff's success with having McVay in his ear the whole time.

NFL: Stafford to Rams for Two 1st Rd. Picks, One 3rd Rd. Pick, and QB Goff

Absolutely nuts. Both QBs are pretty beat up, overpaid for their production, but somehow Detroit gets 3 picks (including two #1s)?! This is a huge mistake by the Rams.

    Pats QB Options

That recipe won them a Super Bowl two years ago. Perhaps they're better off spending on DL and LB and a cheaper Cam clone (like Brissett). As noted, completely fascinating off-season to come.

    Pats QB Options

The Pats are built for ball control (at least offensively). Winston makes no sense in that regard given his incredible willingness to turn the ball over. Someone (AZ?) will give him a shot as a backup once again, but I don't think he'll ever start.

    Pats Roster Planning: Defense

The Diggs trade was contingent on a new contract, which the Patriots (in cap hell) could not have afforded, especially with also needing to re-sign Brady to make it work. The Pats were likely no more than a stalking horse to the Bills to raise the contract terms.
