Talk to me about NAS stuff

I have a 4 bay Synology DS 920+. I can’t really say enough about how great it is, the user interface is very straightforward and it’s jam packed full of useful features and in-house apps. I do agree with the time it takes to get past the initial configuration and learning curve involved...

Schilling says he's leaving Boston to be with 'people that are nice'

Good thing he didn’t try to move to RI. Doubt they’d let him cross the state line.

Predicting the Future: How Many SBs Does Mahomes Win?

It’s super hard to allocate so much salary to a QB, consistently finish as a top 3-4 team, and expect to continually hit on on draft going 29 or later. You end up getting thin and a gradually roster talent suffers. I’m not betting against him winning a couple more, but I’m not expecting this...

Cutting The Cord on Cable/Satellite TV Service?

I've cut the cord for around 3-4 years now and do not regret it. Though I don't think cutting the cord its as awesome from a value perspective as it was - say - 5 years ago. 1) Mlb.tv blackouts are easily circumvented with a vpn. Its great and I consider it non-negotiable addition with a mlb.tv...

Rosenthal: Sale extension 5 years, $145 million

Fantastic news. Sale's a generational-type talent and one of the few pitchers that has the combination of pure stuff and control/command to succeed in this park & division. As mentioned upthread, the injury concerns seem a bit unwarranted. Yeah his delivery in unorthodox, but he's been very...

Edelman Suspended 4 Games for PEDs

NFL is a sport where 270 lb behemoths can sprint a 40 in 4.5 seconds. Everybody is on some kind of PED (legal or otherwise). The false righteousness of people regarding this issue confounds me.

    Super Benintendi

Starting at an arbitrary point May 9 (when he hit his 2nd HR of the season) there's been 26 games. Since that point, he's hit .349/.433/.728 with 17 XBH. Of these 26 games, only 8 have been on the road. Road games since 5/9 - .264/.426/.531 His splits against LHP since 5/9 - .389/.421/.833 (19...

    Super Benintendi

I don't recall his production vs LHP being a problem in the minors. Given his profile (+ hit tool, patient approach) it seems like he'd a prime candidate to improve with increased exposure.

    Hanley DFA'd (5/25 Update)

The Hanley/Sandoval positional logjam pretty much forced that Shaw trade as well. Can't say I was a huge believer in Shaw but boy does it hurt now.

Cutting The Cord on Cable/Satellite TV Service?

Correct. Connect an ethernet wan from your ONT to the router and call it in. Its all done remotely.

Cutting The Cord on Cable/Satellite TV Service?

Call VZ tech support. Perhaps if you're nice enough they'll waive a service fee but telco's don't typically bend over backwards once they get your cash. If they have to spend a few hours running 25-50 feet of cat5e you're gonna get nicked for materials & labor.

Cutting The Cord on Cable/Satellite TV Service?

Saves you a few hours since they don't have to run fiber to your house.

Cutting The Cord on Cable/Satellite TV Service?

I dunno, I think you can roll either way and be fine. However...it does make it a tad bit easier and if you're going with a new install they're contractually obligated to ensure your home network is up and running. That's probably worth the $10 for the initial month rental.

Cutting The Cord on Cable/Satellite TV Service?

TP Link Archer C1200 would probably offer what you need. It runs for around $50 on Amazon, if you have prime. I'm sure Best Buy or any similar store would carry it for around the $50-75 mark.

Cutting The Cord on Cable/Satellite TV Service?

They're not very good. Generally speaking any router you rent from your ISP is trash. The VZ ones are okay-mediocre but the signal strength is decidedly lacking and you really want something with external antennas that you can manipulate to increase coverage. Get any Linksys/Netgear dual-band...

Cutting The Cord on Cable/Satellite TV Service?

So your connection to verizon's network comes in from the street (or ground) to a box typically located either outside your dwelling, in your garage, or basement/closet etc. This is called an Optical Network Terminal, which converts optical signals to RF, MoCA/data frequencies. Think of it as a...
