    2021 Draft

For me it looks like there’s a consensus top 3 (Leiter, Lawler, Rocker), so the question is who are you looking at at #4. Somebody might go off book, but picking right if they don’t is where I trust Chaim & team’s evaluations.

Maybe the Red Sox are good?

I wonder how this tracks with length of game… can’t check now, but it really just feels like a lot of the games are done in 3 hours or so. I guess depressing offense will do that…

The Red Sox will be wearing yellow and blue uniforms on Patriots' Day weekend

I'm against using faux stencil fonts, but because I've been using stencils in artwork and have noticed a general consolidation in how they get made; there used to be lots of individual manufacturers, but now everybody carries the same thing (go look at your local home depot or hardware store)...

Coors Field to be the site of the 2021 ASG

Since it’s not mentioned in this thread, I think it’s worth adding that the pool of teams they could choose from was limited to teams that are away before the AS break, of which the Sox are not.

Red Sox Draft Tanner Houck, RHP, Missouri at #24 Overall

That's from earlier in the thread/ last year, right? Castig mentioned on today's broadcast that the Sox changed his delivery to be a bit more over the top. He's still similar to Sale, but not quite so exact as he was last year. The radio team were arguing pretty hard to keep him up & in the...

Francisco and the Five Pricy Shortstops

Got an extra $16M, but with $50M deferred. It looks like Lindor was willing to pay $ I’m order to have the value of his contract reported as higher than Tatis.

Lindor signs 10 year, 341M extension with Mets

Under current rules the CBT calculation is done based on AAV (Average Annual Value); neither salaries for individual years or deferrals matter, just the total contract and playing years.

MLB Spring Training News and Notes 2021

Glad to see he was signed, just sad that the window the Sox need him for doesn’t align with this contract.

    Good baseball podcasts

Hi old one was also called up and in. Guess we can't expect Jason Parks to be on this one, but still worth a listen... Edit: is there a new "Up & In", or just KG on Fangraphs?

Fernando Tatis Jr. signs 14 year, 340M extension

I think it's much more that they can see what happened with Mookie and see the value to locking him up while they're trying to rebuild the fan base. If the deal doesn't work out they probably figure they're better off going the Arenado route... the downside is much less palatable if his deal...

Benintendi to Royals for Franchy Cordero, Mets RHP prospect Josh Winckowski, and 3 PTBNLs

I could see that being a factor, but not at the expense of getting worse talent back; the Sox are looking to rebuild and are actually signing OFers, so I'm not sure if the talent value of a 40 slot is a cost worth paying when the the potential DFA isn't going to be anyone we'd miss. My guess is...

Benintendi to Royals for Franchy Cordero, Mets RHP prospect Josh Winckowski, and 3 PTBNLs

I'm not familiar with Cordero, so no eye smell test opinions to put forth, but his advanced fielding numbers (FG UZR) aren't good. OTOH the sample sizes of those numbers don't look large enough to be meaningful so far, so...

Benintendi to Royals for Franchy Cordero, Mets RHP prospect Josh Winckowski, and 3 PTBNLs

Well, after his last 2 seasons (even if one of them is only a 14 game sample) it would pretty much have to be. Even a team who is very bullish on him as a change of scenery guy isn't going to empty the farm for him. I think most of Bloom's deals are going to come down to scouting assessments...

Might as well start talking about 2021

The salary space under the CBT threshold; granted we don't know what JBJ is currently looking for, but the signing for similar players put him around $8 - 10 M. Since then the idea that he's looking for 4 years + could easily mean that he's priced himself out of most team's estimation of him and...

Might as well start talking about 2021

Part of the reason I assume they decided to pay Ottavino over JBJ is because relievers will be easier to flip for a prospect in-season. How many teams are going to be looking for a new CFer? And that assumes that JBJ has hit well enough to be worth anything (whereas the inherent variability of...

Red Sox and Devers avoid arbitration

Didn’t see the original thread title, but I saw another headline about the “Red Sox Sign Devers” and it sort of implies an extension, which I think we’d all expect to be substantial & long term, not just avoiding an arbitration hearing.

Sox Officially Sever Ties With Lowell Spinners (With a Caveat)

Have to imagine that the fact that the MLB team and parent corporation are also in Massachusetts, where the listed state politicians are from, also is a factor.
