The NHL is back on ESPN

Agreed. He was average as a baseball announcer, but he and Doc Emrick are the voices of the hockey to me, and both are terrific. I'd love to hear him calling games again on the four letter network.

    Aaron Boone getting pacemaker installed

Except for that effin homerun, of course. There was nothing reasonable or good about that.

Fernando Tatis Jr. signs 14 year, 340M extension

And they were traded for each other, with other pieces going Colorado's way, none of which worked out for either side.

Red Sox trade (P) Springs and Mazza to TB Rays for (C) Hernandez

Credit to Bloom for finding value on two players he decided weren't important to keep on the 40 man. If either pitcher turns out well for TB, any fault will be with the decision to DFA them in the first place. But given that this decision was already made, the trade itself can only be a win. He...

    NFL News and Transactions

Via a mutual friend, Jackson committed suicide. I hope this is false, but it certainly explains the circumstances. His life was clearly spiraling. His wife was leaving him, which explains his month long stay in a hotel close to his house. Sad all around.

    2020-2021 Yankees Offseason Discussion

As usual, I am impressed with Cashman's offseason. I can't find fault with any of his moves. In particular, your bullpen is deeper than it has been in a long time.

I can echo this. I went to college with him and hung out with him many times. He was a terrific person with little ego who was nice to everyone. He also wasn't into drinking or using drugs, which I only point out because of the unusual circumstances here (though this could have changed, of...

Nolan Arenado traded to St. Louis

Good question, and you provide several good theories yourself. For a while they tried groundball pitchers with the idea of preventing not only homeruns but extra base hits. Because of the altitude, the outfield was made intentionally large, and this leads to extra doubles and triples, too. The...

Nolan Arenado traded to St. Louis

You're right that baseball in Denver creates many challenges. But the owner is born and raised local who loves owning the team. He'll never sell or move because he makes money, and the attendance because of the experience will always keep them solvent. But he also doesn't seem to care about...

Nolan Arenado traded to St. Louis

That was back when it seemed like the baseball product actually mattered. But over time, the owner has and continues to cater more and more to the ballpark experience than the product. Those fans have understandably grown frustrated and stopped coming to a large extent, but because of the change...

Nolan Arenado traded to St. Louis

Born and raised in Colorado, I've been a Rockies fan (and Sox) all my life. I was at the first ever game with 80,000 people and EY homering just over the fence in the first ever home at bat. I've never heard a louder stadium for baseball than that moment. I was also at the first ever game at...

Nolan Arenado traded to St. Louis

Any other GM would have been fired by now, but Bridich has Monfort's support. There's not a worse GM/owner combo in MLB, and perhaps not in all of professional sports.

Nolan Arenado traded to St. Louis

I think they move McMahon to 3rd and Rogers plays 2nd. Or they trade Story (they probably should) and Rogers replaces him.

Nolan Arenado traded to St. Louis

Yes. Statistics back the theory (see JA's post/links above) that the Coors effect has a more negative impact on the ability to hit on the road than the positive impact on home numbers. This is exacerbated even more given the division they play in, where 3 of the parks are at or below sea level...

Pillar to Rockies for PTBNL, international slot money (UPDATE: Jacob Wallace)

"Isn't the best" is being kind. Bridich is as clueless as Monfort, who hired and continues to pay him. That said, Pillar is so a Monfort/Rockies player. Unfortunately.

    February 2020 NBA Game Thread

My Nuggets with the best win of the season last night. They had 7 players in uniform, on the road at Utah, the second night of a B2B, and they pulled it out. Joker became the 9th player in NBA history to put up 30-20-10. It's never too early to start planning the championship parade, lol.

    Thank you David Price

As a Sox fan, I'll always appreciate him for 2018. As a Rockies fan, I'll enjoy hoping for bad things to reign down on him in 2020 and beyond.

Good game, and props to the Chiefs and Andy Reid. Maholmes as MVP is absurd.
