Matt Barnes Tested Positive For Covid-19

The PCR tests detect viral RNA but do not tell you whether infectious virus is present. A number of possibilities here: Prior infection (several weeks to even several months ago) with residual RNA. In these cases, the amount of RNA detected is very low, but such measurements are not...

Betts/Price to LA for Alex Verdugo, Jeter Downs, and Connor Wong

Is anyone else a bit surprised that they didn’t hold on to Price until July, to see if he could rebuild positive value, such that a contending team would pick up the entire remainder of his contact? Perhaps this trade speaks to the front office’s lack a confidence in the soundness of his left arm.

    Betts/Price to LA for Verdugo/Jeter Downs/TBA

This debacle is the consequence of the failure to develop quality starting pitching post Lester (and Buchholz, sort of), with nothing in the pipeline even now, hence the big contracts to Price, Sale, and Eovaldi. The credit card bill has come due, with interest.

Since it is not an arb award, I am quite sure that it is a guaranteed no.

Wouldn’t the Bills have the better conference record in that scenario?

    Red Sox sign Martin Perez

Indeed a bit puzzling, but we won’t find sure things at this price. Perhaps they see his role as Beeks (as suggested above) or Pomeranz (reliever version), in which case the price seems a bit steep.

Manny, Ortiz, Duquette, Gedman, and Dinneen to be inducted into Red Sox Hall of Fame

Rice? Armas had better (still not great) plate discipline in 1984 and 1985, and only his 1984 season would conceivably be described at “great” by Williams. I’m not sure Williams would have described any season by Buckner or especially Stapleton as “great,” though Buckner’s just completed 1985...

Correa actually was admirably composed in the face of that call.

    2019 Trade Deadline

There has been little discussion about the razor-thin margin to the upper luxury tax threshold...are they really going to incur those penalties for a marginal bullpen upgrade?

    2019 Trade Deadline

With some notable exceptions, many on this board thought the Thornburg trade was a splendid idea at the time:

Michael Chavis, SS: 2014 MLB Draft 26th overall

Some folks seem eager (again) to jettison Holt, but he saved 2B from being an utter black hole last year and has a track record of major league competence.

    Eovaldi to the IL

Last year he took 2 months, and was still rehabbing from TJS. 6-8 weeks seems realistically optimistic, if there are no unpleasant surprises tomorrow.

    Starting Pitching 2019

Was that April start the game with historically miserable conditions, 34 degrees and light rain? Still, I agree with the larger point.

    Sandy Leon waived

I don’t think they will expose the #2 catcher to other positions, except in extenuating circumstances; given the lack of organizational depth at the position

Red Sox Post Season roster-ALDS- 2018 edition

I could see Velazquez make it if they want somebody available to eat innings in a lost cause, particularly given the questionable caliber of his competition.

Red Sox Post Season roster-ALDS- 2018 edition

Recency bias, game threading, etc, but why the heck put Kelly on the roster instead of Workman? On another note, I’m a bit surprised that Scott isn’t getting more of an audition. Perhaps that speaks to Cora’s belief that a LOOGY isn’t necessary.
