Sexual Assault Lawsuit Filed against QB DeShaun Watson

Let me preface this by stating the obvious, which is that this is all just our own opinion, as we know nothing about the specifics of the case other than what has been reported. so it’s not as if either of us have any fact-based insights here. That said, if I were Watson’s lawyer, I’d be less...

Tiger Woods Car Accident - Ongoing News and Commentary

The fact that he coasted and then floored the accelerator tells me (as a matter of common sense) that he was distracted and then, when he realized the danger, he attempted to stomp on the brake. When he hit the gas instead, the rapid, unexpected acceleration caused a disoriented reaction that...

What makes this a special case is the impressive lack of self-awareness that made them issue that statement. It’s a masterpiece of Trumpian propaganda, and they are so clueless that they don’t even get it. I’d also mention that this isn’t the USGA at work, though the description still applies...

I completely get it. My objection was to the conflict-of-interest with ESPN wrapping the “broadcast” within the mantle of their sports reporting rather than event coverage. I also know that bitching about ESPN’s conflicts is a stale complaint if ever there was one. Just hit me harder than...

    2021 Masters Week

On a side note, I completely understand that the actual broadcast of The Masters (on both CBS and ESPN) is 100% controlled by Augusta National. (They pay the networks for the time and produce the broadcast, which is how/why they can dictate the announcers and control how they talk about the...

Tiger Woods Car Accident - Ongoing News and Commentary

My wild-ass guess is that he was probably looking at his phone and/or texting. At some point, he realized that he was outside of his lane, went to hit the brake and in his panic stomped on the gas instead. Regardless of the underlying cause, Tiger is incredibly lucky to be alive.

Good hitting, great plays in the field, scratching out runs. I will say this is the first time I’ve felt like baseball is back. And nice to get the third run there.

Sexual Assault Lawsuit Filed against QB DeShaun Watson

Until a week ago I would have agreed. As more details have come out, I no longer believe that playing this year is in the cards. And if I were Watson, I'd be worried about limiting my civil liability and attempting to eliminate the possibility of criminal charges. YMMV.

Sexual Assault Lawsuit Filed against QB DeShaun Watson

I understand what you are saying, but I question whether that has any real value to Watson at this point. More to the point, if the reporting is true and there are extensive records of Watson texting the women who are now accusing him, he's fucked and a day of changing the narrative on ESPN...

Sexual Assault Lawsuit Filed against QB DeShaun Watson

When the known facts are extremely unfavorable to a lawyer's client, it doesn't necessarily follow that his strategy is therefore "smart." The most charitable thing I can say about the statement he released is that it has no value.

Tiger Woods Car Accident - Ongoing News and Commentary

Reading through that article gives me the sense that there is not a whole lot there and they are just being extra cautious given who the driver was. More directly - since they have no evidence of impairment (they didn’t even request blood samples) and they’re leaning on the black box as...

Andrelton Simmons to refuse COVID-19 vaccine

IMO, people who make public comments about their refusal to vaccinate in the midst of a public health crisis need to be prepared to answer for their decision. I also disagree pretty strongly that when a public figure puts out a public statement it does not open him up for additional questions...

Andrelton Simmons to refuse COVID-19 vaccine

I'm not owed anything and that's not what I'm saying in any case. I'm pushing back against the idea that it's nobody's business. Which is true until he puts out a public statement. I don't give a damn whether he answers or not, but his statement requesting privacy is meant to shield him from...

Andrelton Simmons to refuse COVID-19 vaccine

This isn't an abstract question about privacy. The issue here is that once he decided to make his anti-vaccine stance public, his opinion entered the public domain. And if he thinks he can put that out there and not have anyone question him about it, he is sorely mistaken.
