2021 Pats: Looking Ahead – Roster Planning

Should be one of the better groups on the roster. Roster construction wise they eventually need to draft a DMC successor. I haven’t really done safeties in this draft class yet. It’s one of the better positions in FA too. You wonder if they get a guy a year early there especially if that guy...

2021 Pats: Looking Ahead – Roster Planning

Completely agree with you. Dugger being NEP version of Jamal Adams but even more athletic. Not disagreeing with you but coverage was probably Dugger’s biggest adjustment coming out so it’s not inconceivable he actually makes a year 2 leap and gets better there. Wouldn’t that be cool? And if...

    2021 NFL: News and Transactions

This is a fantastic post. Offensive Line and running back are my favorite position groups to scout. You need a good RT and LT these days. I asked Brandon Thorn in particular about Onwenu and his situation. Should he be a guard or tackle? Here’s the skinny. Thorn says he is fine/good/sturdy at...

2021 Pats: Looking Ahead – Roster Planning

Tough call. You could go either way given the like handful of guys under contract. With Jennings, Wino, Uche, Hall, Hightower, you are probably better off in a 3-3-5 base or 3-4 but you could just as easily play Jennings in a 4-3 as an edge. I also think there are slightly more teams who run a...

2021 Pats: Looking Ahead – Roster Planning

There are three guys in the draft this year that could potentially be that guy. Slaton out of Florida will be there later day 3. He has the body and size but he is still learning to play the position. I wasn’t impressed with the one game I have of him on tape. Tyler Shelvin out of LSU is a...

2021 Pats: Looking Ahead – Roster Planning

Going to cross-post this but... One of the things we are discussing is if the Pats stay 3-4 or go to 4-3. If they stick to 3-4 this is a year where they might be able to get their pick at OLB/Edge. If they are able to take Azeez Ojulari at 15 and Zaven Collins sometime later in round 1 by...

2021 Pats: Looking Ahead – Roster Planning

That’s a tough call. So one of the things we have talked about here and others have brought this up but if you look at the Pats and the draft you’ll see the Pats don’t take edges early. One guy in top 50 picks not including Hightower who is a hybrid. Usually by the time the Pats pick 3-4 edges...

    2021 Pats: QB Options

What a fun Saturday again. More tape with friends. Again if you want an invite just PM. We have the good stuff (All-22). Today we looked at Mac Jones vs Georgia. I think it is the best example of how Mac Jones is fools gold. You look at his stat line and you would think he had a great day but...

    2021 Pats: QB Options

Belichick digging his heels in when they were 2-5 and getting the season back on track was a pyrrhic victory in a way. Although keeping the culture is important and seeing younger guys finally producing again was a nice change.

    2021 Pats: QB Options

Would you still feel that way, Nipper, if you knew his full name was Michael McCorkle Jones?

    2021 Pats: QB Options

Kyed seeing Ghosts with Darnold really makes this full circle. Nice work there. I am pretty gloom and doom on their options. No one imo worth taking at 15. Too many teams ahead of them to trade up. Mariota might be the guy for a 5th but why would LV cut him? Jimmy G isn't worth a pick and can't...

    2021 Pats: QB Options

I would put Lawrence at 2, behind Luck. There were a fair number of Mariota > Winston people, Leaf > Manning. Lawrence is the best QB prospect since Luck in the last decade, probably 2. He is also the consensus #1 in a v good QB year.

    2021 Pats: QB Options

I completely get why @Super Nomario is the adult in the room with staying disciplined and not trading up for a QB and giving up a 2022 1st given the team situation. I think he’s right that it’s the move they make. And it’s probably the correct move analytically (HT The Drafting Stage). But the...

2021 NFL Prospect Talk...Because It's Never Too Early

Teven Jenkins is a perfect Cannon replacement. He's a big strong OT. I am not sure he has the athleticism the Pats like for their OTs in rounds 1-2. Carman Jackson and Alex Leatherwood are also OTs in that mold. I think Barmore has rare athleticism and hand usage for a DT. I just did deep a dive...

2021 NFL Prospect Talk...Because It's Never Too Early

Fanspeak. Here is the thing with this time of year. Some of the guys I got day 3 are probably day 2 picks :). The draft boards are highly variable. PFF is way higher on Moore than anyone else. Most of the guys I follow have him in the 2nd or 3rd. Personally I will have him top 30ish. I love...

2021 NFL Prospect Talk...Because It's Never Too Early

@Bowser here is a mock I did today. I made a lot of trades including getting a 2 for JCJ or Gilmore. I paired Barmore with McNeill and added Collins as your ILB/OLB/Edge swiss army knife piece along with Dayo Odeyingbo who should be on our radar as a Patsy prospect from Vandy.

2021 NFL Prospect Talk...Because It's Never Too Early

Sure thing. So Alim McNeill is my guy. He is one of the biggest most explosive players on the DL. Has rare power and can soak up double teams while clogging the middle. He is an unmovable object against the run and his bull rush is potent for a big against the pass. He needs to introduce more...

2021 NFL Prospect Talk...Because It's Never Too Early

JOK is a lot like Dugger to me. I think Bill wanted that big S/LB hybrid for a long time now. T. Wilson, Jordan Richards, and guys like that were his cracks at it. Chung 2.0 was another guy who could do that. No need to take JOK imo when you have Dugger. Bill hasn't taken an ILB under 240 in...

2021 Pats: Looking Ahead – Roster Planning

Respectfully all-out. The WR class this year is great. Spending a first rounder on a 6'1" sub 175 pound guy (didn't weigh in at the senior bowl) when there are guys on the front 7 or OL you could draft seems like a waste to me. You can get receivers day 2 and day 3. Bill has size requirements...

2021 NFL Prospect Talk...Because It's Never Too Early

@Shelterdog I got a chance to view more prospects and have since changed my mind. I got to about 10 edges, 5 LBs, 10 OTs, and another 8 WRs. There are some really good edges in this class. No Chase Young types but there are 4 ILB/OLB hybrids I think the Pats would love: Azeez Ojulari, Micah...
