I think another point about not wanting to "lose" a trade just to pacify the other GM, is that this is the NBA; it's entirely possible that that other GM isn't the one answering the phone the next time you call.

If I were Miami, I would offer #3, and #36 this year, plus 2022 1st and 2023 2nd. They will still be able to add a nice piece at #18 this year plus they'll have a decent amount of cap space to add someone else. I think the other factor for BB is that I think he rates players based on more global comparisons than simply "best player available still on the board." This is why he will trade down so often. If he gets to 15 and doesn't see anyone who he thinks is a 15, he'll trade down. OTOH, if he sees...
