Ryan Brasier retweets video mocking Jacob Blake response

I just re-read the entire thread, front-to-back and back-to-front. While some early posts merely called for him to be removed without any explanation, I found no post advocating to cut him because of his beliefs. I found plenty of posts explaining that he should be gone for team chemistry, held...

Ryan Brasier retweets video mocking Jacob Blake response

Exactly. Brasier is welcome to believe whatever he likes. He's welcome to say whatever racist shit he likes, and when he does, the red sox fan base and management are welcome to hold his ass accountable.

software/package for entering google-form like documents but with end-to-end encryption

The group is concerned about ownership and security of the documents, where they are stored, and would prefer a more internal solution.

software/package for entering google-form like documents but with end-to-end encryption

Hey all, A group that's working to promote diversity in academic science is looking to get more secure with forms filled out online, as opposed to google forms. Is there a package or software (either way, doesn't matter) freely available, easy to setup, that would provide end-to-end encryption...

Chris Sale 2020 - TJ Bound and Down

Appreciate the expert opinion on this :) It is certainly a silver lining, especially with a shortened (possibly non-existent) MLB season. 2020 can indeed get bent. I feel bad for Devers and worse for Mookie/Xander :(

Chris Sale 2020 - TJ Bound and Down

I suspect that the coronavirus expedited the surgery. Had no crisis hit, he'd probably try to come back this season. Due to the coronavirus, his production might be zero anyways -- so if he wants to remain competitive, now is probably the best time to do so and rehab back.

    Jeter Downs

Absolutely, agree! I could see a call-up in 2021 if he progresses quicker than expected and/or peraza/chavis falls through as a combination.

    Jeter Downs

I wouldn't rush him -- he's 21 and played 12 games past high A and there's no need to accelerate his development this year with Sale injured. Assuming he progresses well, he probably starts the year in AA and arrives sometime in 2022.

    2020 Rotation

Martin Perez had a 3.6 ERA in 120 innings for the Rangers in 2013. If Bauer was as cheap as Perez, I'd be intrigued, but he's only had one good season, and is generally shitty PR off the field. I'd be surprised if either pitches within 1.5 ERA points of Bauer's 2018 for the remainder of their...

Chris Sale 2020 - TJ Bound and Down

This is horrendously overreactive. Price pitched 350 innings over the past 3 years and is 34 years old; Sale pitched 500 innings and is 30. Sale had more fWAR last year (3.6) than Price had in any of the last three. EDIT: If sale produces 17 fWAR over the next 5 seasons (2020-2024), he'll have...

    2019-20 Offseason Discussion

Bullpen and lineup are top-10 and competitive. The issue is the starting pitching may be anywhere from top 5 to bottom 5. There's just a lot of variance in predicting how Sale and Eovaldi will perform.

    2020 Rotation

Dalbec has been scouted as a better arm and more polished defender than Chavis. I could see Dalbec having greater position flexibility too -- though, he's been mostly at 3B in the minors... In any case, Dalbec may be ready by the trade deadline, making either one exchangeable.

    2020 Rotation

On avearge, there's around 850 innings or so for starters. Even with a 5th day opener, we're still looking at 750-800 innings. The above starters pitched 565 innings last year. I think you bring in the young non-mata pitchers (stank, shawaryn, maybe houck as an opener) and try to sell high if...

    Sox re-sign Moreland

In terms of production by either rate or value, MM ranks in the bottom third over the past three years (31/38). He's a first baseman that, at best, can create runs 10 percent better than the average ML hitter. The average 1B produces runs about 20 percent better than the average ML hitter...

    2019-20 Offseason Discussion

Good point -- totally forgot about him --a shame you can't like posts, since I feel uncomfortable posting a simple affirmation. I think you are comparing the wrong players; Poyner can still be called up to the majors, so we didn't lose him. Travis is a 1B/passable corner outfielder with no bat...

    2019-20 Offseason Discussion

Oh absolutely -- I'm merely quibbling with the relative level depth between 2018 and 2020 -- both teams were pretty thin at position players and starters. That being said, Kinsler and Pearce were mid-season pickups enabled by a deeper farm system in 2018. The lack of farm system depth makes...

MLB’s sign-stealing controversy broadens: Sources say the Red Sox used video replay room illegally in 2018

I'm surprised something like this hasn't happened yet. Nothing in the rule book defines how a catcher signals the pitch. Not only would this hide signs but also reduce pitch latency. A faster system enhances a pitcher's ability to throw off the given batter's timing.

    2019-20 Offseason Discussion

Yup -- though this was true in 2018. Possibly even more so, since most of our value came from a few players: https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=0&type=8&season=2018&month=0&season1=2018&ind=0&team=3&rost=0&age=0...

Cora in line for major suspension?

Extending this logic further into a hypothetical situation: If the investigation finds evidence of rule-breaking by the red sox in 2018, it would be equally foolish to assume that Dave Dombrowski was unaware. Though speculative right now, such information might drastically change how one...
