I took her into our wooded park this morning and did 2.5 miles on the trails. She was off leash for most of it and behaved well. Ran around like a maniac but always came running to me if I got out of sight. Came when she was called. Never even had to give her the treats in my pocket.

That's a lot to think about. Thanks! It's also possible that since I turn 50 in a few months that nothing on body works right anymore and never will again.

So my Garmin Forerunner 110 bit the dust after six years of service, and I've upgraded to one with a heart rate monitor. Google tells me I should be doing the bulk of my running at "Heart Rate Zone 2" Except I can't get below 3.5. Do I really need to run so slowly? It seems counter intuitive.

FWIW I ran the 35th Annual James Joyce Ramble in Dedham, MA this past Sunday. It's a 10k with folks in period dress reading aloud from the works of James Joyce every half mile or so (seriously!) Unfortunately I went by them fast enough that i couldn't pick out more than a few words, and I...

Drove down to Hampton Beach NH for a half tomorrow morning. Holed up in a hotel room with a nasty cold and headache. Supposed to be 5 degrees with strong wind gusts sling the shore. I'll see how I feel in the morning but I think I might not run tomorrow.

"A race like no other" about the New York City Marathon is quite good. And I wasn't a big fan myself but a lot of runners I know loved "Chi Running"

Also food can upset my stomach when I run, or give me heartburn. If I go first thing in the morning it's not a problem, although I do like a cup of coffee before I go

I went 7 this morning and felt fine. Although you'd better believe I slowed down anywhere the pavement looked even a little uneven. I think I'll be gun shy for a while

Hit a crack in the sidewalk while running a couple of days ago. I hit the pavement like a sack of potatoes. Broke my glasses and scraped up both knees. Plus a huge shiner. I fell really lucky. I didn't have time to put my hands up and could hVe ended up with a concussion. Or a mouthful of broken...
