    2020 Rotation

yeah, absolutely nothing was hit hard - a bunch of bleeders, drinks and dunks, and a couple of errors thrown in.

Chris Sale 2020 - TJ Bound and Down

I wonder when/where he's getting the MRI. In Ft. Myers, or are they sending him straight to Dr. Andrews (in Alabama, I think)?

Reserving Judgment... But What Did the Sox Do and How Bad Will They Get Hit?

The only thing I care about, or worry about, at this point is the draft picks. I'm hoping the it won't be as bad as the Astros' in this respect, but the repeat offender aspect has me worried - this could offset the fact that the Sox' offense appears to be less significant.

MLB’s sign-stealing controversy broadens: Sources say the Red Sox used video replay room illegally in 2018

So who was Evan Drellich chummy with when he was working the beat in Boston? Were there any players that were his "go to" for interviews, quotes or comments? I'll bet that's where he went for his sources on this story.

    2020 Lineup

I generally agree with the layout of this lineup, at least against RHP, although I might switch Beni and Verdugo out of concern that Beni might try to hit HRs out of the 3 slot rather than just getting on base, which I think was part of his problem last year (and why he bulked up last...

Betts/Price to LA for Alex Verdugo, Jeter Downs, and Connor Wong

Yes, it was unfair to the players. But unless it was the Red Sox who leaked the initial deal (prior to the review of medicals) or who released the medical info on Graterol - both of which I think are highly unlikely - then it's not the Red Sox fault.

    Betts/Price to LA for Verdugo/Jeter Downs/TBA

You may be right, but I'm not so sure. With regard to (a), I don't think the Sox care that much about lowering the subsidy - getting under 208 was the only priority, and they're comfortably under that already. Being further below doesn't help them much at this point of the offseason, when...

    Betts/Price to LA for Verdugo/Jeter Downs/TBA

I've maintained all along that the Sox need to get a near MLB-ready SP prospect back in the deal. Initially, it looked like whether Graterol's future was as a SP or a elite reliever was still somewhat open, with may evaluators thinking he's probably end up as a reliever, but the Sox apparently...

    What about Brusdar?

Have you watched the video clips? His 100 mph sinker moves a lot, unlike JoKe's whose FB is usually straight as an arrow.

    Betts/Price to LA for Verdugo/Jeter Downs/TBA

The fact that he opted in is probably a good indication that there wasn't much of a trade market for him at that price either.

    Betts/Price to LA for Verdugo/Jeter Downs/TBA

[ I'm disappointed that they didn't find a way to make the amount of the payments dependent on the number of starts or IP by Price (more starts or more innings reduce the payment). I think this is true. Plan A for getting under the CBT was JD opting out (and maybe non-tendering JBJ). Plan B...

Lou Merloni: Mookie asking price is 12 years, $420 million.

I doubt we'll see the Competitive Balance Tax removed entirely. But there are several ways in which it could be revised in the next CBA: 1. It seems as though the draft pick penalties are more of a concern for teams than the money, at least judging by what teams say publicly (although there may...

Sox talking Mookie trade with Dodgers, Padres - News & Discussion

Story if I missed someone posting this, but MLB.com has an article weighing various trade packages for Mookie - they also discussed this on MLB Network Hot Stove: https://www.mlb.com/news/mookie-betts-trade-proposals I generally agree with their conclusions, but not completely in sync with...

Sox talking Mookie trade with Dodgers, Padres - News & Discussion

Iowa Democratic Party just announced that they will release caucus results by 5pm ET. So at least one of these will be resolved today.

Sox talking Mookie trade with Dodgers, Padres - News & Discussion

I think that may be part of it (assuming that's what he's looking for), but even if they don't want to pay that they could just keep him this year AND TRY TO WIN, and then try to resign him, or sign somebody else. I don't think they'd make this move, and make the team demonstrably worse this...

Sox talking Mookie trade with Dodgers, Padres - News & Discussion

If we're trading Mookie in large part to reset the CBT, then we don't get there unless we also trade Price or Eovaldi (or maybe JBJ, but I think that's unlikely). I think that's why this is taking so long. Bloom not only has to explore packages with the Dodgers and Padres that include one of...

Lou Merloni: Mookie asking price is 12 years, $420 million.

Assuming they trade Mookie and Price and get under the tax threshold in 2020, then (as many as speculated) they cn make an offer to Mookie when he's a FA next year. But I think a Plan B could be to go after George Springer, who's also a FA after this year. I hadn't't seen anyone speculate on...

Sox talking Mookie trade with Dodgers, Padres - News & Discussion

I think Vedugo's back issue is "concerning." Not clear what it is, but more than just a minor tweak: From an article posted on MLB.com on 1/3/2020: The Dodgers have been vague about Verdugo’s specific diagnosis, which has included lower back soreness and a right oblique strain. Manager Dave...

Lou Merloni: Mookie asking price is 12 years, $420 million.

Adding a"Larry Bird" exemption? I don't think the MLBPA properly assessed the ramifications of increasing the penalties for going over the CBT thresholds (the escalating draft prick penalties and the escalating tax rate for repeat offenders), in addition to not properly indexing or increasing...
