Spurs get a second; Son finds Eric Dier who delivers a really clever header into the bottom right corner.

Is there any better feeling for a local fan than going from junior to senior partner in a derby?
It’s a lot of fun for sure. The only problem is I intended to buy season tickets after my first full season, and then they got unexpectedly promoted. And now I can’t get one.

Oh wow they just got a third, and I think VAR gave them a gift.

Looking forward to the singing of “Stadtmeister, Stadtmeister!”

Edit: just saw another replay of the goal and saw a defender away from the play who left Union onside. So right call after all.

How much money could you have won if you had wagered on Sess and Dier scoring the first 2 Spurs goals this season?

I really like the updated Peacock app today. Tune into the match late, and you have the option to watch clips to catch up. UI is also much smoother

Romeo Lavia, Southampton's 18 year old Belgian midfielder, has been very impressive.

Entertaining first half. Wolves vs Leeds 1-1.
Wolves a bit too casual with possession and Leeds pressure causing wolves trouble.

Little bit, although a less clear progression. I don’t have the local “talk shit to the blue guys in the office” angle that I bet makes it even sweeter though.
The Union-Hertha rivalry is honestly pretty friendly, especially since they were separated for so long. Sure we want to beat them, but I wanted them to stay up, and I think they’d want the same for Union. I think Hertha fans will mostly be happy to see Union do well in Europa. It’s far, far kinder than Red Sox-Yankees, Spurs-Arsenal, etc. more good-natured ribbing than outright hatred. One of my friends who supports Hertha told me basically, “I was born into this. If I were picking, I’d be a Union fan.”

Now BFC Dynamo can stay in the Regionalliga forever—or even better, out of that. Fuck those guys. I get angry on the rare occasions I see someone wearing their stuff, because of the political message anyone wearing their stuff is likely trying to convey.

It was good to see some new blood in Wolves starting XI -- Collins, Gibbs-White , and both played well. Starting with back 4 was mostly fine, I hope they stick with it. But they got sliced up by Leeds thru balls and decisiveness, and did not take advantage of their few times in the attacking box. Wolves are tantalizing but seem to wilt when they see some adversity. Not having a true #9 did not help, hopefully Jimenez back soon.

This Everton - Chelsea match is looking a lot like you might expect from a match with 0/22 players being actual strikers.

On the balance I’m happy, pen was a bit soft but Doucoure had his arms around him like a basketball reach around - should be a pen.

no cutting edge from Everton but progressive ball movement and playing between the lines , and solid at the back save for Minas dreadful backpass they led to to the collision where Godfrey got hurt. Hope it’s not too bad but it looked awful

Everton are doing what they have to in their situation.

Tuchel should be somewhat ashamed at making this assemblage of attacking talent this dull.

The bland, featureless haircut that both Mount and Havertz seem to have gotten is a good metaphor for Chelsea’s tactics.

I’ll take a break from trashing Chelsea to say that Cucurella looks great. He’s gonna vault ahead of Chillwell very quickly.

The Premier League breathlessly announced, in the interests of transparency they would be publishing all (some, few , only safe?) VAR conversations post game. Does anyone know if this has actually happened?

edit: so much for that pipe dream

https://www.espn.com/soccer/english-premier-league/story/4712112/premier-league-wont-release-var-audio-at-the-start-of-the-new-season-sources
They also said they wouldn’t be stopping the match for emergencies in the crowd. That lasted one half at Goodison.

wait, Nottingham Forest does not have a kit sponsor? How much does it take to get SOSH on those kits?
£10m

Nottingham Forest are certainly keen to secure a sponsorship agreement and the situation regarding the plain front of their shirts is not one they had planned for.

According to reports from the East Midlands, numerous deals have been close to being agreed but none have got over the line yet.

According to Sport Business, Forest chairman Evangelos Marinakis is holding for a £10m-a-season deal and was willing to start the campaign without a sponsor if his demands were not met.

It’s obviously early but I’m not seeing an obvious gameplan from United. The players seem to know where they’re supposed to stand but not how to move.

Not a great start to the ETH era when Danny Welbeck is clearly the best player on the field.

I’m not sure combining the league’s slowest center back with the league’s shortest center back is a winning strategy.

Ronaldo coming on and being the savior would be incredible. Just add even more schadenfreude to the mountain that already exists at United.
