Tom Brady has 10 playoff wins in his 40s.

Peyton Manning, Elway, Steve Young, and Bradshaw had 14 in their career. These guys were the elite in their eras and Brady in his 40s is keeping up with their careers.

Players below Brady in his 40s. Russell Wilson, Brees, McNabb, Kurt Warner, Kim Kelly, Dan Marino. These are guys who rewrote the record book in a variety of ways. They are in the hall of fame or going into the hall. Brady in his 40s is better than their careers in terms of playoff wins.

Hilarious.
It was posted elsewhere, I think, but Montana retired at 38 with 16 playoff wins. Brady has a chance this year to get to 16 playoff wins after turning 39 (he is currently 13-2 since turning 39).

Or, if you prefer:
Tom Brady 2001-2007, ages 24-30: 14-3 in the playoffs
Tom Brady 2016-2021, ages 39-44: 13-2 in the playoffs

LOL.

Just to play off your point, @johnmd20 ....

Brady's career stats in his 40s:

- Regular season: 60-21 (.741), 2019-3093 (65.3%), 22938 yds, 168 td, 51 int, 98.6 rating
- Post season: 10-2 (.833), 304-476 (63.9%), 3626 yds, 22 td, 7 int, 96.3 rating

His regular season stats in his 40s would have these rankings all time in the NFL just by themselves:

- Pass Completions (2019): #73
- Pass Attempts (3093): #99
- Pass Yards (22938): #92
- Pass TD (168): #47
- Passer rating (98.6): #7

I still cannot get over the fact that Tom Brady at age 44 led the NFL in touchdowns and yards. I will never get over this fact. Ben R at 39 years old threw like 40 passes yesterday and I think 3 or 4 of them got past the line of scrimmage. That is insane and he was an embarrassment. He was worse than Manning in 2015 and that is saying something.

Brady, at 44, led the NFL in yards and won his playoff game yesterday in simple and easy fashion and the game was never in doubt from the second quarter on. In a game TB led 31-0, Tom Brady also kept going out there. Never at risk, never with doubt. I am in love with this guy.

If you take out every single playoff win Brady had in his Super Bowl winning seasons, he's 13-11 in the playoffs, more wins than Aaron Rodgers. This stat to me is utter insanity. You're guaranteed a loss and still end up over .500.

My newest favorite thing about counting Brady's numbers is that you cannot compare him to other players anymore. You have to compare him against franchises. And in that regard, Brady still wins. He has won more Super Bowls than any team in NFL history.(this one is legitimately funny) He has more playoff wins than all but 4 NFL franchises have ever accumulated since the beginning of the Super Bowl era over 50 years ago.

In the last 3+ seasons Brady has 8 playoff wins. That is more than Arizona, Jacksonville, Detroit, Cinncy, and Houston have ever had.

Having more playoff wins than 87.5% of NFL teams is legitimately awesome. There have been a lot of great players in NFL history. Many have had incredible playoff success. And Brady's numbers break the charts.

The idiot Rob Parker says Brady is the LOAT - the luckiest of all time. Obviously some plays have gone his way, but you don't have this kind of success....well...nobody has EVER had this kind of success so it feels silly writing that, but you don't have this kind of success by being "lucky".

Great story, but it does show how limited the international reach of American football is that the name of the current superstar and all-time greatest player of the sport can be used as a code that only those familiar with the US would know

Being good is also a function of taking advantage of the opportunities in which you do get lucky. Aaron Rodgers lost an NFCCG in which Russell Wilson threw 5 picks and lost another in which Tom Brady threw 3 second half picks. He had nothing to do with those interceptions, those added chances just happened to come to him by circumstances out of his control. He proceeded not to do anything with those added shots.

Rob Parker is the Tucker Carlson of sports--and Brady is the Democratic Party.

Parker's comments are stupid on its face, obviously. Some crazy plays have also gone against Brady.

I guess Montana and Bradshaw are also LOATs. If anything, they are ever LOATier than Brady. The harder Brady works, the luckier he seems to be, I guess.

At the culmination of the season, I updated my spreadsheet of quarterbacks with year 40 stats on Pro Football Reference. There's 20, that includes Brady.

Some had, of course, very short stints at 40+.

Brady accounts for 39.13% of all completions, 37.92% of all yards, and 39.53% of all touchdowns in that club.

2,019 completions, 22,938 yards, 168 touchdowns.

It's truly remarkable what he's doing.
If you limited Brady's career to what he has done after 40:

91st all time in passing yards, just behind Bernie Kosar, a couple of slots ahead of Roger Staubach.
75th all time in passing touchdowns, a couple of spots above Troy Aikman.
10 playoff wins (tied for 10th, ahead of Russell Wilson, Jim Kelly, Drew Brees, Bart Starr among others)

Crazy.

Edit: And already covered above!

Here’s another funny one: Brady has as many playoff wins vs the NFC as Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers has been in the NFC for 14 years. Brady’s been there for 2.

Another fun Bradyism… he’s older than the 3 opposing head coaches that are left in the NFC.

If Brady were to win the NFCCG, he would tie the all time record (Favre, 12) for most playoff wins against NFC teams.
In a similar vein, there have been 12 wins in the playoffs by quarterbacks over 40. Brady accounts for 10 of them

Being lucky works both ways too. I can think of two Super Bowl losses with an opponent's miracle throw and catch in each that could have gone another way.

There are supposedly rumors floating around of Brady retiring at the end of the season as Simmons mentioned it on his latest pod, and Perillo hinted at it.

You mean like there have been rumors each year for the last 5 years?

not intending it as snark, but rather to say that if a few of the pundits put it out each year, at some point they will be correct.

Really?...I don't really recall any such rumors last year, or the year before...even before that Brady always insisted that he was going to keep playing and no one credible really doubted him

They've been picking up recently as well. Saying the last thing Brady wants is a last season victory tour getting gifts and thank you sessions.

I'd say delaying final episode of Man in the Arena til after Super Bowl may be a clue as well. He could want to see how the next month plays out, then adjust the script depending...

True, although if they go to the Super Bowl, wouldn't that mean they need an 11th episode anyway?

Yes. I think the scenario he may be looking for is not going to the super bowl, then announcing retirement, then editing / sculpting ep 10 ending as a farewell to his career.

Going to be awkward when Jimmy G is on the last episode after knocking Brady out of the NFC Championship!

I really hope he pulls the plug this year, and Gronk goes with him. Maybe he realizes no matter when he quits he’ll feel like there’s gas in the tank, but getting out now at essentially full health is the way to go. (Assuming the LAR don’t flatten him this weekend.) And he can go do whatever he wants with his family.

Also love that he doesn’t want the farewell tour.

I want him to play one more year. Even if there is some drop-off he should still be good enough to be a Top 10 QB and the team should still be good. Assuming he's halfway decent he can go 100+ TDs past Manning. I am a petty man and I want to see that happen.

But if he hangs them up I'm looking forward to Pats honoring him in some way as soon as possible. That ceremony will be epic.

The first 8 Super Bowls he was in easily could have gone either way, which is pretty wild. The last one was really the only crappy game he’s played in.

I just can't imagine Brady retiring after the year he had. He plainly has gas in the tank and he's made pretty clear that as long as he has gas in the tank he wants to play. It's hard to imagine him changing his mind, unless he has been given an ultimatum by his family or something significant has happened behind the scenes.

It's temping to think that certain endings to the year might have an impact in how it plays out. But it seems he's just not wired that way. If he wins the Super Bowl then obviously he'll know that he's still capable of winning the Super Bowl and I just don't see him saying "nah, the next one is not important to me, that's enough." If Rodgers outduels him and Brady throws a pick on a potential game winning drive in Lambeau I can't imagine him saying, "I'm good."

He's an MVP level NFL quarterback. He has been that most of his entire adult life. You don't just stop being that voluntarily. No way. He'll retire when he's not that any longer. He's still that.

Could be outside forces that make Brady say this is it. Meaning that he's put off retirement for so many years now, his kids are getting older and want to be more involved, and may finally relent to Gisele wanting him to be done. He's proven he can win outside of Foxboro, made a lot of money, and is set up to make a fortune for the rest of his life.

I think retiring after next year is too perfect. He plays until 45 (a stated goal of his), extends all of his record to the brink of unsurpassability and sees his contract through. I think he has said that the Gisele thing isn't really as much of an issue as it once was and that she won't be the reason he retires.

On the other hand, it might very well be that he loses a heartbreaker or even wins the Super Bowl again and decides starting over isn't really worth it. But whenever the retirement comes I'm sure we won't really hear about it until that season ends.

He literally just addressed this the other day. I'm paraphrasing, but he basically said, "I know I said I'll retire when I suck. To clarify, I meant I'll retire when I can't lead a team to victories."

He then went on about how he's having fun playing and his team is winning.

Dude aint retiring this season.

Exactly, his team is 14-4 this year. He is most assuredly still leading them to victories. If they slide back to 10-11 wins next year, who knows.
