Whatever tension probably existed between them in their last few years, if anyone thinks they aren't going to be thanking each other and crying grown man tears when they're giving their 1st Ballot Hall of Fame speeches, Seth Wickersham has a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you.

For real. Each of them has always said, for 20+ years, how much they respect each other, how important the other has been to their own careers, and how they wouldn't have had the success they had without the other. That has never changed in two decades.

Of COURSE there's going to be some tension along the way. Even the best of married couples has SOME tension - a lot of it really - but the sign of a good marriage is the ability to work through it. Obviously these two guys worked through it, and the other day Brady said that the way it ended was the right way, that everyone left respecting each other, and that it ended up being good for everyone.

If it had to end, it was about as "good" an ending as it could possibly be.

Not only is he out, but he didn’t travel with the team. Why would they take away the chance for a huge ovation from the fans, even if he wasn’t playing?

Airline travel with bad ribs might outweigh a standing O

There are some great details in Edelman’s diner animation. Bill left a half-finished glass of orange juice.

edit - and I think there’s a picture in the diner of Flutie drop-kicking.

Not sure where else to put this, but watching the game I am struck by how much the AB situation cost this team in 2019 (and then kind of in 2020 due to the cap). He is a difference maker and Brady clearly loves playing with him.

I will always believe AB cost this team a SB appearance.

Guess it makes sense to put these AB quotes here. But yeah they seem to have a legitimate bond.

“It was the best experience of my life being here," he said. "Bill Belichick is one of the best coaches, preparing the players, on the field and off the field, discipline, and he walks around these same hallways and walks around the building to go to practice. It was amazing being a player and seeing the preparation, and the details that he goes over to make sure his team is prepared. Being able to talk to him after the game was an honor.”
“This is where it all started for me and Tom," he said. "I had the opportunity in 2019 to come here and be a part of the great organization that the Patriots are, and to be able to be in this position two years later and to be here it is definitely God’s plan. I was grateful to be out there with Tom and do what we desired to do.”

Brown added: “Just imagine being with an organization for 20-plus years, and having so much success and building so many relationships. He started a family and his kids were born here, and had so many different memories and moments. Knowing Tom, he is the ultimate competitor and a true winner and a true leader, and you know he was going to bring the intangibles. We knew what this game would entail for him. As soon as the season started, we knew what this would entail and it is great to come out here with him and get the win tonight.”

He's a difference maker. I guess where I'm kind of going is that the Pats were probably right in signing him. The whole thing went haywire really quickly but it could have been the move that really helped that team out. The fact that it went south and then they had to trade for Sanu and then he got hurt makes it hurt doubly or even triply when you count the AB cap hit in 2020. But overall it was probably a risk worth taking. It just didn't work out.
