We would have to overpay which wouldn’t be worth it. If I’m the Twins, I would want Houck plus a prospect.
One thing I like about Chaim is that he does not seem to care about what he says to the media at all.
And from what I've read, is only interested in the ninth inning. I.e., being The Closer.
I can’t remember a more aggressive buying deadline than this. Buyers are pushing all their chips in across the board. It’s insane
I think that the psychology of a closer requires a lot of confidence and pride. Unless Kimbrel is used exclusively as a set-up (how likely?), Liam just got kicked in the nuts.
It's like a post-pandemic phenomenon of everyone going to the beach and renting cars all at once. Last year was such a dud, everyone is going nuts this year.
I don't mean this as a knock to the Sox - but I think the AL teams are all seeing a bit of weakness at the top and middle of the league and an open door into the playoffs could mean a real shot at getting the right to get demolished by the Dodgers or Padres.

Voit’s attractive to a team who expects to contend again in a couple years. Maybe even the Nats.
I figured out how to root for David Wells when he joined the Sox, I suppose I could figure out how to root for Voit (although he's not coming here).
The latter part may be what Chaim is waiting on. He's the only one needing a 1B so he's possibly playing chicken with the other GM's.

Question - is it proper GM etiquette not to turn around and trade a guy you just acquired (Voit) to that team's rival (Boston) within 30 minutes of acquiring said player (Voit)?
Bloom likely has his eyes on a couple of smaller auction items waiting to see if the bids are lower now that everyone blew their bankroll on the bigger items.

I’d be satisfied with a good glove 1b like Eyechart at this point. If the plan is for Schwarber to play first, I don’t want Buckner redux in the late innings. I really felt Rizzo would have been a perfect fit here.
