You make a great point about the lineup being banged up. Obviously the guys on the IL right now weren't the big boppers, but their absence is perhaps forcing guys to play through stuff that they might be better off resting more often. Verdugo, I think, was battling some nagging stuff for a while and is only just recently starting to play and hit like himself. Hopefully some of the others will be able to recover similarly.

One thing to note with the competition...the Jays and Yankees are 8+ games back right now. Even a moderate stumble by the Sox isn't really going to bring them screaming back into the division race. The chief concern is winning the division and staying ahead of the Rays, which they've managed to do all year with the roster they have. Not sure the deck chair shuffling the Rays are doing necessarily makes them any more formidable than they were. They've arguably moved out as much talent as they've brought in over the last few days.
I think Bloom is playing it cool with the lead. We play the AL East a lot in the next few weeks. NY & TB are trying to make a run with these moves. Sox are really good, if they hold these teams off to some degree, we got this with no sacrificing the future.

I'm amazed at the lack of a market for the 2020 HR leader. Amazed.
There's no way the Yankees would make a trade with the Sox at this point, right? After the Ottavino and Whitlock missteps I think Cashman would take a hard pass on trading Voit to Boston.

Or, we fade quickly (or slowly, whatever) and we missed out on being sellers at the inflated prices out there right now.

NYY trying to trade Luke Voit.

Maybe Cashman will give us the pigfucker for free?
I'd be happy with the pigfucker. If healthy, he's certainly a better option than the shoats currently on the farm.
Point of order. We have not yet determined that pigs would be open to a consensual relationship.

I'm going back to what I said before, the guys that Chaim is willing to give up just aren't going to cut it for the premier chips on the block. The Sox are getting outbid and that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Kimbrel to White Sox
That’s disappointing. Was always a pipe dream so I guess it’s not super surprising. I think Passan was saying the reliever market is gonna get weird so there’s still some stuff out there. I saw Raisel Iglesias mentioned somewhere and I’d love that.

Between CHW/HOU turning themselves into playoff juggernauts by stacking their bullpens and the overall temperature of the market, this does not seem like the year for the Sox to be cashing in a bunch of prospect capital for a rental.

Is Cashman approaching the deadline as a lame duck?

Who on the Cubs was giggling with the outlandish suggestion for Madrigal? They probably were playing a game of "who can get hung up on the quickest". For fucking Kimbrel?

So…has the Scherzer deal been finalized? Less than 90 minutes until the deadline. A man can dream, can’t he?

Might be a blessing in disguise to not blow our prospects this year with the way prices are for trades...
I tend to agree, but would REALLY like to see them grab an arm and a 1B before the window closes. Depth guys (and not superstars) is fine with me, I trust Chaim to find a solid player who adds depth and has some upside.

I never really wanted Kimbrel back. I know he’s been good this year, but go rewatch his performance at the toilet in the 2018 DS. Terrifying.

Definitely not worth the cost the White Sox paid, but I’d love to get an experienced reliever who has succeeded (albeit with lots of agita) to add to the mix.

Agree with everyone that this has turned out to be ridiculously overpriced sellers market. Will be disappointed if Schwarber is all we land, but think Bloom is doing the right thing by not trying to match on these deals. Still hope they can ad depth to the pen before 4, but if not fine taking our chances with the team that has gotten this far.

That is absolute batshit. I guess Baez is definitely gone now, with Hoerner at SS and Madrigal at 2B.

Who the hell plays 2B going forward for the White Sox? Moancada to 2B and Burger at 3B maybe?
Madrigal is out for the season with a torn hamstring, so he wasn't in this season's plans anyways. That's a true GFIN move. An insane one, IMO.

Madrigal was out for the season already following hamstring surgery mid june, looks like they've been shuttling people through the position ever since.

All to acquire a closer who a.) isn't the model of consistency, b.) doesn't have a great contract, and c.) will be the SECOND BEST CLOSER ON THE WHITE SOX.

If I'm Liam Hendriks, I'm seething.

EDIT: Maybe third best closer. Kopech is nasty.
Liam already got paid. I wonder if that factors into it at all.

Absolutely, he'd be a worthwhile addition (if the cost isn't prohibitive, which I'm starting to suspect it would be now)
Maeda feels expensive. 2 more cost controlled years at only 3 mill per.

Pineda seems a cheaper get (and arguably more effective short term).

I actually don't know why MIN would ever trade Maeda at that salary.

With a seller's market, the Sox should still be willing to pay the price for an above average 1B to get an average 1B. Nothing else is likely worth it for this team.
