You and I seem to be the only ones wanting Aguilar. I wonder if there's any possibility of that, or does Jeter not have any interest in helping the Red Sox?
I’m on board with Aguilar. Miami has a couple nice bullpen pieces too so there’s potential for a package there. He’s not just a rental either.

I really don't think that Jeter cares about helping or not helping the Sox, if he believes that the deal made sense for the Marlins. I just don't think these guys think that way at all.

Trey Mancini? Didn’t realize he was a FA after next season. We know he can hit and I can’t imagine Baltimore wouldn’t listen. Apparently they’ve left that door open and are taking calls.

Santana could be a good get, hits much better away than home but he has been really dead offensively for 2 full months and his not great numbers are being carried by his explosive April/May.

Not sure why Schoop isn’t discussed more. He’s got versatility. I’d take Santana first but I like Schoop as a cheap option.

There should be a max of one Turner per team

more seriously, this may be good longterm for the league in terms of getting the the bottom 28 teams to fix the structural inequities on the game.
rather Max go NL then to the Yankees or somewhere else AL anyway, if not Red Sox

Sox unlikely to make a deal. Speier on NESN saying, "sometimes the goal is to drive up the price for other teams to acquire players." "The Dodgers and the Rays didn't make many moves last year and they went to the WS and Bloom took note of that ...." Sox getting ahead of the PR flack ....

All that's missing is for the Nationals to send money to the Yankees are part of the deal

Did Speier specifically say they’re unlikely to make a deal? Or was he speculating about, if they don’t, why that would be? Didn’t see it so just hoping to clarify.

@JonHeyman

Mets and Cubs are talking about deals for Kris Bryant and/or Zach Davies. Could make a nice package and solve Mets’ two main issues. Cubs have a lot going on obvs.

I don’t care if they don’t go crazy, and don’t really want them too, but the current 1B situation is untenable and not so complicated to upgrade to a quality bat.

I get the feeling we're going to end up with some bargain basement piece of garbage that Bloom rescues off the scap heap.

The latter. I'm speculating off of his speculation ... but seemed awfully conspicuous wording ...little bird stuff ... hope I'm wrong

Or they’re using the Globe to communicate their willingness to walk away during a negotiation.

I took it as they were unlikely to move top guys, not make no deal. More they aren’t getting Scherzer level guys than they aren’t getting anyone.

Actually, he didn't say they wouldn't make a deal, just that they weren't interested in trading their top-tier minor-leaguers. He said he expected a deal before 4 pm tomorrow for a "complementary player." At least, that's what I heard.

Probably but then again Pivetta, Whitlock, and Arroyo we’re all bargain basement pieces of garbage and they’ve all turned into solid (or better) players so maybe that’s not the worst thing in the world?
